New Internet Box 5 with Wi-Fi 7 - also for copper connection

  • Dear Community

Following the launch of the Internet-Box 5 Pro, the Internet-Box 5 is now also available in the online shop. The new router offers Wi-Fi 7 for all copper and fibre connections. Thanks to the dualband Wi-Fi 7 technology, you can achieve a Wi-Fi speed of up to 6.8 Gbit/s and more efficient signal transmission when streaming, gaming and surfing. The popular features such as guest WLAN, Internet blocking for devices, a WLAN speedtest or Wireshark VPN are also included

Anyone who orders a new blue Internet S or M will receive the new Internet-Box 5 free of charge. You can find out more about the device, connections and installation here.

Which router do you use in your home? We look forward to your comments!

    Best regards

Perhaps the most important differences to the IB5pro:

      • the IB5 has no 6Ghz WLAN in contrast to the IB5pro
      • the IB5 has a 2.5Ghz LAN port in contrast to the 10 Ghz LAN port on the IB5pro
      • the IB5 is not as thick as the IB5pro. It has approximately the same external dimensions as the previous IB3/4
      • The IB5 can use copper and fibre optics, the IB5pro can only use fibre optics

The basic functions of the software are the same

JanineZ Does anyone know when the good piece will be available for Wingo customers? 😉

I don’t even know how long it took for the IB3 and IB4 to be available for Wingo customers, but I think it was pretty quick because of XGS-PON, which the IB2 can’t do

In any case, the Wingo IB3 was only available to fibre optic customers for a long time, but that only changed about a year ago. Just over a year ago I had to fight hard to get an IB3 with a copper connection, but then it worked (all the accessories for fibre were included, but the copper connection also worked)

I have been using the IB5 pro (successor to the IB4) for some time now. I am extremely satisfied with the IB5Pro, especially because of the significantly improved wireless capabilities with 11 antennas. The WLAN quality has improved so much that the WLAN also reaches the bedroom and bathroom, where the two Internet radios now work without occasional interruptions (1× 2.4 MHz, 1× 5 MHz (newer device).

The IB5 is about as thin as the IB4, which greatly reduced its stability. I really appreciate the somewhat thicker and lower housing of the IB5 Pro, which does without the round base, so that the box stands a little more securely.

Our tablets and smartphones are connected to the IB5 Pro and the two WLAN boxes 3 (basement and guest room, kitchen) via WLAN 6 GHz extremely quickly and very stably. The TV, which is connected to the WLAN Box 3 in the guest room with a LAN cable, also works excellently, although the connection between the WLAN Box and the IB5Pro is set up via a WLAN connection. The WLAN-Box3 in the basement is connected to the IB5Pro in the flat via LAN and “radiates” into the entire basement of the house built in 1928.

If I’d had the choice between the IB5Pro and the IB5 when the IB5Pro was released, I would have chosen the IB5Pro because of the significant improvements in the WLAN area.

With both IBs, the 2.5 and 10 GB connections are only useful if the entire home network (switches, PCs, etc.) is also converted to these speeds. However, as a 10 GB fibre optic connection is of little use to the normal user (I have tested it extensively with 1 and 10 GB subscriptions), it is not (yet) worthwhile for the home network either. As soon as the remote sites on the web have switched to 10 GB, it could be worthwhile. That’s why I’m saving CHF 10 per month again and using the 1 GB fibre optic connection, which is currently perfectly adequate.

        Best regards

5018 And why can I disconnect the three networks and activate power saving mode for 6 GHz in the GUI of my IB5 (not pro) ?

Of course, it could be that I still have a preProd FW on it (which would be strange, the new FW just came out), which was the same as the Pro and the switches in the GUI do nothing. Maybe even a bug or need to clear cache ? I’ll check @home to see if my Samsung is actually connecting at 6GHz or not.

It is not necessary to convert the WHOLE house network.
If, for example, the only PC with a 2.5G/10G network card is connected directly to the IB5/pro, this does not affect the rest of the home network…..
Of course, if there is a NAS with a 2.5G port, for example, a corresponding switch is required. But the rest can stay as it is….

I have just had another intensive chat with my own IB5 and it has assured me that although it is WiFi 7 capable, due to its chipset, unlike the IB5 Pro with its tri-band chipset, it is only dual-band on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN bands and therefore does not have 6 GHz WLAN.

PS: For your test with the Samsung mobile phone, you should remember to switch off your test WLAN box beforehand, which incidentally is not even on the market yet 🙂.

Roger G So, of course you’re right about 6GHz, the IB5 doesn’t have it. But it is visible in the GUI, as I have a WB3 in operation and you can set the WLAN of the WB3 “remotely” via the IB GUI.

That’s nice. But fortunately, the electrician finally came to my house on 30 April to install fibre. So I’m going from 3 to 5 Pro and will happily be on M for mobile, TV and internet.
