  • Hello @Black Mamba,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

But then, what is the difference between the inOne mobile care subscription (which we currently use for our children’s smartwatches) and the “Blue Kids Watch”. Would this solve the famous AppleWatch problem and allow our children to make and receive calls in France?

Thank you in advance for this additional information.

  • Hello everyone.

    Eureka!!! It worked!!!

In fact, this morning I went to France and I tried it and this time….it worked well.

    Yayyy!!!

On the other hand now, I would like to know what about the possibility of acquiring two AppleWatches for our children with their inOne Mobile Care subscription (so AppleWatch configuration for a family member - family sharing => see previous message ).

    If anyone could enlighten me!!!

    Thank you very much.

  • Hello LUL67,

So I have an AppleWatch series 9 and of course I have “Roaming abroad” enabled. And I checked the “updates”

So I’m not explaining that it didn’t work. Was it a temporary problem, lack of network, etc….I’m going to try it again the next time I travel to France.

But what I would like to know today is especially if I purchase AppleWatch watches for my children, with their subscription (inOne mobile care) is roaming abroad supposed to work or not . In view of Moderator Swisscom’s comment, I am not sure I understood correctly.

  • Hello everyone,

I have just seen that apparently the situation has changed for France.

Here is the response from a Swisscom moderator:

    Hello everyone,

    Thank you for your contributions.

After taking information, here is the information collected:

Swisscom launched VoLTE with its partner Bouygue Telecom at the end of last year.

The availability of the function with Orange and SFR will follow.

Only Apple Watches in Multi-Device configuration (“paired for myself”) connected to a VoLTE network while roaming can use calls and data transfer while roaming.

If Apple Watch is set up as a primary subscription (e.g. “paired for family member”), calls and data transfer do not work.

What worries me in this message is that apparently if we decided to buy two AppleWatches for our children, as they do not have their own cell phone, therefore their watch would be managed in “Family Sharing” on our iPhone (despite the fact that they do have “telephone numbers” with SIM card (E-SIM) = inOne Mobile care subscription) well that wouldn’t work!!!

Do you understand like me and has anyone already tested this situation?

I, who was happy to finally be able to upgrade to slightly more advanced Smartwatches for our children, are now forced to give up.

Thank you for your feedback and valuable advice.

  • Hello everyone,

I tested this weekend while going to France. I turned off my phone and left it in the car and tried to make and receive calls through my AppleWatch. And…it didn’t work. Unable to make or receive calls.

So…I don’t know what to think.

  • Hello @LeylaG,

I have just seen the latest messages and am delighted that things are finally moving for France.

I have an AppleWatch (multi-device function with my abonnement Swisscom) which, until now, did not work in France. If I understood correctly, this problem should now be resolved. I’m going to do a test, I have to go to France this weekend, so I will voluntarily leave my phone at home and see if it works with my watch.

But what worries me is the following. Our two children currently have inOne mobile care subscriptions (for Smartwatches because we want to delay the acquisition of cell phones as long as possible). Not to mention, they have Xplora watches. A few years ago, we bought AppleWatches for them but returned them because we noticed that they did not work in France (they regularly go on vacation to their grandparents in France).

So I was very happy to hear that the problem was finally resolved and that we could get AppleWatches for them again. But your post that if it’s “matched for a family member” worries me. Does that mean it won’t work?

Indeed, from memory, when we configured their AppleWatch, we did “family sharing” (as they do not have a cell phone themselves) in order to be able to manage school mode for example.

However, they each have a “phone number” with a Sim card (or E-Sim).

Can you tell me if in our situation, given their respective subscriptions, this will work or not?

I hope my message is clear. Please let me know if this is not the case.

Have a nice day and best regards.

  • Good morning,

Thank you for supporting my request 🙏🏼!!! I feel less alone with this concern which I find absurd. So, I took the Multi-Device option but I’m going to cancel it because I travel mainly in France so it’s of no use to me (I wanted to be able to enjoy being on vacation without my phone while remaining reachable) . What’s more, I wanted to equip our children with Apple Watches because I want to delay the acquisition of mobile phones as long as possible but as they mainly go on vacation to their grandparents-parents in France, it is therefore not possible for us…nothing no good!!! As you mention so well, I find it absurd that this does not work with a NEIGHBORING country!! I inquired a little if other operators offered this option but like you, I saw that with Sunrise this was not possible. Maybe Salt (given the fact that Salt is formerly Orange and that in France there is the Orange operator). Anyway, I’m not very motivated to change operator, I’ve always been loyal to Swisscom but let’s just say that this is a very boring situation. I hope that by joining our grievances a solution can be found.
Good luck to you and thank you for keeping me informed if you have anything new.

  • Good morning,

    Thank you for your feedback.

This is the information I had. But forgive my ignorance, but why doesn’t it work with an AppleWatch when my children have two Smartwatches from another brand (Xplora not to mention it) it works PERFECTLY abroad. Furthermore, this roaming thing works with a phone so what is concretely different from a watch??? (Sorry but I’m stubborn and like to understand). Furthermore, do you think that this situation is likely to change in the short or medium term or should we assume that there is little chance of this happening? Thank you for these last clarifications.

  • Hello everyone.
I am the person who wrote the first message in this discussion.
How much time has passed since then. Indeed Apple announces that their watch can now work with roaming abroad. You can also clearly “activate” roaming abroad in the options. So I was delighted. So I took the Mulit-Device option to be able to use my Apple Watch without my phone. During a recent trip to France, I wanted to try it. So I left my phone in Switzerland and happily went to France with only my AppleWatch….yes but there you go….it didn’t work. Unable to make and receive calls. So I inquired again and saw that unfortunately agreements with a French operator and Swisscom had still not been found, as a result, AppleWatches cannot work abroad….to my great despair then. that my two children’s watches from another brand work perfectly abroad. So I am clearly disappointed because one, I have the impression of paying a little in vain for my Multi-Device (being very often in France) and two….I have difficulty understanding where this is failing….is -is it from the operator, is it from Apple!!! Do you know if this situation is destined to change quickly? Thank you for your feedback.

  • Roaming Apple Watch France

  • Good morning,

We are parents of two children and do not want them to have cell phones at the moment. We therefore opted for Smartwatches. They started with TCL watches and then given the fact that we are on Apple and that the family configuration was possible, last year we bought Apple Watches. However, we had the very unpleasant surprise during our vacation with my in-laws in France, that roaming abroad did not work on the Apple Watch (while on their TCL, no problem). We therefore resold the Apple Watches and returned to the TCLs because as they spend their holidays with their grandparents in France, it is essential that we can contact them and that they can do the same.

When the new Apple Watch series 8 was released, we saw in the description that this new watch would finally have roaming abroad. So, we already ordered and put into service one watch to be sure of what we were doing before adjusting the second one. And…..we were in France for the weekend and what was our very unpleasant surprise to find that our daughter’s watch, therefore the Apple Watch series 8, still does not work abroad. Note that their package allows it because my son has his old watch on his wrist, no problem. So okay….I must have clearly missed an episode!!! What about it? Is the roaming option not yet available with Apple Watches but will be soon? Or is this actually misleading advertising or is it Swisscom that doesn’t allow it but other operators do?
Thank you very much for enlightening me because I don’t understand anything anymore.

      Bon après-midi
