@ElectricBoi

We are currently working on expanding the Internet Box Speedtest to 10Gbit/s. This will happen in the next few weeks.

This will also be the only way to test the 10Gbit/s. As long as you have a subscription with the appropriate service speed, of course.

It should also be mentioned that XGS-PON has a relatively large overhead. So you will measure approx. 8.2 / 8.0 GBit/s.

As already explained, you will get a maximum of 2.5Gbit/s from the LAN. But you need the appropriate equipment.

Theoretically, it is already possible to carry out tests across multiple ports using iperf3 or other measurement tools. But this requires a corresponding server in the network.

In the laboratory, of course, we did this with the Internet-Box 3. This is to show that the IB3 can also utilize the speed of the new fiber optic technology aggregated across all ports (LAN and WLAN).

    Thank you for your detailed answer @MichelB!

    Do I understand correctly that for a test over several ports, there must be a corresponding test server in the network that can handle 8 Gbit/s upload and download from one connection?

    And another question: I read in the community that the IB3 can manage up to around 4 Gbit/s upload and download via Wifi. Is that correct?

    Since we are in the German-speaking area, it should probably be called fiber optic 😉

    Peanuts?

    @Herby I also referred to the screenshot from @ElectricBoi, which is in English. #Peanuts I can only agree with you to a limited extent, as this is not allowed to happen with incumbents and the corresponding corporate identity (corporate wording). Someone probably translated freely instead of using the translation table.

    Were you somehow informed that your connection is now capable of 10 Gbit or did you simply test this yourself?

    You will be informed and you will receive a kit. Otherwise it won’t work.

    Stupid layman’s question, but does that mean you have a Wingo subscription connected via XGS-PON? Wingo told me this: “The reason for this is that your house is connected to the Swisscom network via a new technology called XGS-PON, which is not yet compatible with Wingo Internet.”

    A week ago, when I selected the speed test in Internet Box 3, I was told that no speed test was available yet. Now the test seems to be working. It breaks off every now and then, or the display often jumps back to “0” when uploading, but I assume the data is somewhat correct. It’s crazy to think that about 4 years ago I was still on a copper cable with 3500kbit/s!

    Yes, of course it’s just a gimmick, the PC and PS4 are only equipped with 1Gbit/s network cards and a few devices are connected to the WLAN. Nevertheless… I like fiber optic technology and Swisscom 🙂
