Internet Booster 5G

  • Hello community

Following performance problems with my connection and not being able to take a faster pack due to Swisscom’s infrastructure which is at its maximum, i.e. 100Mbits/s!

Swisscom is offering to install a 5G booster, which I am going to do or at least test.

I have an internet box 3 and on the first floor a repeater, for installation questions, I want to connect the 5G booster to my repeater and that’s where I have doubts! Is this possible or does the 5G booster absolutely have to be connected to the Bos 3 internet?

Which genius among you will be the one who will bring me the best solution, see THE SOLUTION?

    Cordialement to all

    • Suite et fin: après un ultime appel au helpdesk Swisscom, le problème a été réglé par un technicien second niveau, la connexion à la 5G et débit doublé! Victoire!

“Which genius among you will be the one who will bring me the best solution, see THE SOLUTION?”

I’m not a genius but the solution is very simple: The connection is done simply (only) on the Ib3

A little reading on this link:

Here’s some good news, I received the booster this morning. I will do the tests over the next few days and keep you informed!

      4 days later

      Good morning,

I installed the 5G internet booster yesterday morning and I would like to share my feedback and ask you some questions.

      .

The installation was done without problem until the booster was connected to the Swisscom box 3 and the pairing via network cable.

I tried the pairing procedure several times using the step-by-step installation of the Swisscom Home application and the same error message each time: pairing error check the connections of your cables then turn off the swisscom box 3 and the booster….. restart the box when the light turns blue restart the booster…

If I open the Home application I get an error message telling me that the internet booster is not connected.

Out of conscience I opened my Mac and typed 192.168.1.1 and there!! my internet booster is recognized and connected I have active 4G and 5G signals.

      So I did a speed test and my internet speed doubled from 100Mbps / 30Mbps to 220mbps / 70Mbps

I would like to know if it is normal that the home app (on iPad and iPhone tells me that my internet booster is not connected while my router (by typing 192.168.1.1) tells me that everything is ok?

I wish you a good Sunday

      Jo

      Hello everyone

I just wrote a report for over 30 minutes and when I sent I got a page saying

Oops this page does not exist

So I’ll answer you next week because there’s no way to redo everything today!

      A+

      Hello everyone

It’s not very easy to set up, I hope you all have a laptop, that will make your job a little easier.

      First of all, you must:

      1. Ensure that your Wifi and mainly its signal strength is perfect or at the strongest possible point in the room(s) where you want to work, play or watch movies.
      2. To do this, two fairly nice but somewhat divergent software programs: cnlab and Myswisscom - WLan - Intensity measurement. Walk around the rooms and measure, if the signal is weak try moving the Internet Box 3 to better improve reception.
      3. This treats the weakest points, for example the upper floor of a house, by installing a WLan Box 2 (Repeater) there and finding its best location. From experience, 100% of the signal will be obtained when your computer is a few centimeters away, as soon as you move away the percentage drops very quickly (for me and at a location 2m 80% and 3m 74%).
      4. Once this is done, install your hardware and run the software a little, the WiFi intensity measurements have an unfortunate tendency to vary
      5. Choose the location of the 5G booster and connect it to your Internet Box 3 or to the WLan Box 2
      6. Myswisscom - Manage WLan - speed if you have just done the 5G booster should be there, but…
      7. Now you need to see the quality of your signal, go to Myswisscom - Router settings - Router access, the overview of the home network should be displayed.
Now click on Internet booster 5G and choose Internet Booster Support Page and click on open
You will see the status of the network and especially the strength of the 4G and 5G signals which should tend towards the maximum of the bars (5)
You will have understood a bad signal \= movement of the booster and search for the best possible place

Once this is done, the performance I obtain for an M Internet subscription (300Mbit/s in Download and 100Mbit/s in Upload) is:

      Without booster

      Download 114.7 Mbit/s = ⅓ of the capacity

      Upload 32.7 Mbit/s = 50% of capacity

      Response time 12.7ms

      With 5G booster

                                                           Minimum Average Maximum

      download(Mbit/s) 83,837 145,709 177,660

      Upload(Mbit/s) 50,305 63,465

      Rep time TCP(ms) 7.6 60.8

      Rep time ICMP(ms) 9.6 16.8 73.9

Attention: 5G speed, seems to depend heavily on weather conditions, it is not uncommon to go from 450 Mbit/s to 375 or even 200 and I specify without having moved it and this in seconds!

By comparing the before after and the abonnement Swisscom

Subscription Without With Current gain %Contract %contract %gain

Swisscom booster booster Mbit/s without Booster with booster with/without

      download(Mbit/s) 300 114.7 177.660 62.96 38.2% 59.22% 21.02%

      Upload(Mbit/s) 100 32.7 63.465 30.765 32.7% 63.46% 30.76%

      Rep time Average TCP(ms) 40.6 7.6

      Rep time Average ICMP(ms) 21.1 16.8

In other words, contract speeds seem extremely difficult to achieve.

Let’s be positive +21% in download and +31% in upload for a first test, that’s already enough.

      Ciao tuti

      Asta la vista

thank you for the detailed report 😀

it will surely be useful to users who want to perform this installation

_>… In other words, contractual speeds seem extremely difficult to achieve……..

contracted speeds correspond to the theoretical maximum (e.g. up to X Mbits/s or Y Gbits/s)

it must be taken into account that part of the traffic is reserved for technical data or systems

      >… Let’s be positive +21% in download and +31% in upload for a first test that’s already taken….

I quickly read the documents you gave me as a reference.

I am honorably disappointed, with commercial advertising, with people who complain about performance with booster signal intensities at 3, with advice suggesting that the bandwidth of the 5G booster comes in addition to the bandwidth of the cable, complete heresy. Well, anything, but I would read in detail about the times I find the needle hidden in the haystack, or find the trick that will increase my bandwidth!

The only point that matters is your internet subscription, in other words, if you have an Internet M therefore 300Mbit/s in download you may think that the 5G booster will give you 450Mbit/s or 600Mbit/s it will not be not the case. It is always your Internet subscription which will limit your maximum bandwidth in this example.

I think I answered you a little quickly and I must clarify in relation to your remark:

"the contracted speeds correspond to the theoretical maximum (e.g. up to X Mbits/s or Y Gbits/s)

it must be taken into account that part of the traffic is reserved for technical or system data"

      • When we talk about bandwidth or Mbits/s it is the entirety of the bits which pass through the Wifi and not as you imply the significant bits, consequently the technical data, as you call them, are included in measuring WiFi traffic
      • Measurement software such as those cited does not analyze the content, it simply counts the number of bits passing each second, it does not benefit from the intelligence which would allow them to dissociate useful information from technical information. They only see binary values 0 or 1

Consequently the 60% measured must be able to be further improved to move towards 100% probably without ever getting there!

@Donato, I received an email from Swisscom telling me that my InOne subscription had been adapted. Normally if you go to your “my Swisscom” you should see your Booster if it is activated
