Then I would give this external IT security company some steam. It should be noted that the term “IT security company” does not mean the PC dealer around the corner.

Swisscom claims that spam emails are being sent from my address. But no one can give me proof (e.g. which MAC address in the network is supposed to trigger this). In fact, I can’t send emails from the company I work for (different PC, different network, etc.). Malwarebytes, Sophos, Kaspersky and Avira were unable to detect any threats…

Once a PC is infected, you can no longer trust the antivirus products mentioned because the viruses can hide from them. The only thing that provides trustworthy results in such a case is an offline scan (keywords Kaspersky Rescue Disc, Avira Rescue System). But even then: if an infection is detected, the system should be completely wiped out and reinstalled. The virus removal features always leave some kind of residue behind on the system.

As far as your email sending problems are concerned, you still haven’t written how the problem manifests itself specifically (error messages, where are the emails stuck). And have you changed your email passwords yet?~ (Edit: according to your last posts you have)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I would also take this seriously, as I am not aware of any false alarms from Swisscom on this topic. Even in the most difficult cases, we still found the problem. Do you sometimes use a free VPN? Like every connection, this is a two-way connection and is often abused from the other direction.

I can’t say that off the top of my head. An elimination process is probably the best way, but it is also very time-consuming. Possibly also with Wireshark, but my experience in analyzing network traffic is limited.

Did the agent provide you with a time when the spam was sent?

@PowerMac: Yes, I’ll probably flatten the box (when I know exactly which one). But which one is it??? We have software with quite a lot of plugins on it, there’s a big story until everything is installed more or less up to date again…. What I just don’t understand is why I don’t see any emails in Outlook here (in another location on a neutral PC). can send with my Bluewin account… I have a different IP address and a different provider, only the SMTP server is the same and that’s why I’m wondering whether the problem isn’t exactly there, namely with the SMTP server when sending out of Outlook…

@DonPedro66

If the VPN service was actually malicious, the only way to remove everything safely is to completely reinstall the operating system.

If you still remember the specific name of the external VPN service, I would first research the service name and the additional keyword malware on the Internet to see whether you may have stumbled upon an already known black sheep.

To further narrow down your email problem, my tip would be:

Just create one of your Bluewin mail accounts as an account in the Windows 10 mail program “Mail”.

When opening, simply select a different provider/account and then enter your email address/mailbox password and then apply all the automatically specified values.

It doesn’t take 5 minutes and if it then runs smoothly with Windows’ own mail program, this would be an indication of a separate Outlook problem (perhaps aliases in the SMTP definitions, or another configuration variant that is no longer accepted by Swisscom)

@Werner: Thanks for the tip, I already tried (also with Thunderbird) - no chance. The emails come in, but they don’t go out. SMTP error 421 “blacklisted” or something similar was the message. I then took a brand new PC at the company, only installed Outlook and Thunderbird and Windows Mail and set up my Bluewin address… same result…

…as I said, the Anschluss has been unlocked again since this morning and there is currently only 1 device on the network.

Everything is still working so far, I’ll switch on the second PC this evening and see what happens…

I’ll first flatten the PC on which I had VPN on it and see if there are any problems afterwards…

What exactly kind of VPN service was that?

….keep on rockin' 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

….So, I have now put the second PC online. Internet is still working at the moment. Nothing can be sent with all 3 of my @Bluewin.ch email addresses. Error message "…smtp….blah blah…“blocklisting in effect” The inbox works perfectly! The problem has now taken on a new quality: Sending works on the mobile phone with the mail app - was before not the case…..

The whole thing is becoming more and more grotesque…

…So, emails are all working again 😀…I had to deal with two lovely people from Swisscom yesterday who really took care of my concerns -> Thank you very much! I “flattened” all of my 3 PCs and reinstalled them. Now I hope it lasts…. Thank you for your good advice 👍

How long it works depends largely on the behavior of the user. Because the behavior of the user is even more important than technical protection against viruses and Trojans.

This statement is only partially true. I am and have always been extremely careful. I only ever open emails from trustworthy senders. I’ve never wandered around on indecisive pages. I’ve never downloaded any tools or software from the internet. And yet I was repeatedly banned for over six months. And I even let Swisscom support seduce me into clicking on links or tools in their emails. Swisscom will not be spared either. People are forced to pay electronic invoices, even though many have already been hacked with fake emails from alleged Swisscom. That’s why I still demand paper technology. It’s really not always the user. Technical defects and constant changes by providers are often responsible. Often you are used as a test subject as a final round so that you can save on development costs.
