Why random? There are not only households, customer numbers, zip codes,…

For example, the TV boxes can also be grouped in the system based on the MAC address, serial number, box ID, Anschluss-ID,… and can thus be systematically updated in tranches.

In my opinion, it would make sense to install the updates at the same time for customers with several identical boxes.
Because of user experience etc.

Another question about the HDR on/off function.

I noticed that even on a UHD TV, which according to the HDR assistant does not support HDR at all, when the TV-Box is reset (possibly also with a software update, although I’m not entirely sure about that) the previously switched off HDR is then automatically switched off is switched on again.

Does this matter for the image quality of UHD channels on non-HDR TVs because the TV can’t do HDR anyway, or does the UHD box send a signal to the UHD TV when HDR is switched on on the box, which is then in the The color space of the TV no longer fits perfectly due to a lack of HDR10 and HDR HLG?

Does anyone know anything more about it?

Hello @Werner

What exactly kind of UHD TV do you have?

Maybe you have to set something on the TV so that it supports HDR10 and or HDR-HLG…

There is also a [good knowledge article at Swisscom](https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/TV-Wissensbox/HDR-auf-TV-aktivieren-Sport-in-bester-Bildqualit%C3 %A4t/ta-p/538241) 😉

The TV-Box itself certainly does not send incorrect data to the TV.

because the TV gives all of its information via the EDID data to the TV-Box and if your TV doesn’t support HDR10 then you won’t get any incorrect image information on the TV 😉

In order for the TV-Box to be able to send HDR images to SM TV, the HDMI sync must be correct between TV-Box and the TV. To do this, both the TV-Box must be correctly configured with the HDR function and the TV must have this HDR function activated, which is exactly what many older UHD TVs do not have.

and the TV-Box itself cannot recognize whether your TV has activated this HDR function correctly or not.

but because you see in the HDR checker that your TV can’t do HDR, then it may be that your TV really can’t do HDR or your TV doesn’t have this HDR function activated.

hence my question about your exact TV model 😉

Greetings

@UrsSch

The model is a Samsung UE55HU7100 from 2014/2015 and has a setting for UHD Colors, but not on the HDMI3 input required by Swisscom TV for HDCP 2.2, but only on the other HDMI inputs 1, 2 and 4

HDR with Swisscom TV will certainly not be possible, which the TV box’s HDR assistant interprets correctly.

If I interpret your answer correctly, it doesn’t actually matter on the TV-Box that, despite the TV set’s lack of HDR capability, HDR is occasionally automatically reactivated on the UHD box due to the Swisscom reset and/or update process .

Hello @Werner

An update shouldn’t change this…

When resetting it may well be that this setting returns to activated = default.

Actually it shouldn’t make any difference but there are sync problems every now and then and that’s why the TV manufacturers have introduced this setting just in case 😉

This setting also has an influence on the HDMI connection between TV and TV-Box. Basically, without HDR, a maximum of 300MHz and with 600MHz bandwidth are possible on the HDMI 2.0 interface.

and therefore the HDMI cable for HDR must also support these 600MHz or 18Gbps otherwise there will be problems.

@UrsSch

Thank you for your competent information.

I will continue to monitor in the future whether the HDR switch of the UHD box only goes back to “On” when reset, or possibly also when updated.

@ergiaguaro

The new software will be rolled out to all boxes in a household within one day. If a TV-Box in the household does not receive the update even though it should, it was switched off overnight or had no connection to the Swisscom network for another reason.

Best regards

Since yesterday evening my HD box has been trying to install the latest operating system; I assume that would be OS3.2.

This took about half an hour each time and doesn’t look very stable (from “Just a moment please…” it always changes to “current operating system is being installed…”). At some point it will actually be installed, but apparently OS3.1.

After some time (approx. an hour) the HD box wants to install the latest operating system again and everything starts again from the beginning.

This morning I turned the HD box on again and it wants to install the latest operating system again. I fear this could now go on and on in the interval; half hour installation, one hour TV available, half hour installation, etc.

@Bob It occasionally happens that a TV-Box gets stuck in an update loop. You can try a reset as other users have suggested. If the problem persists, the box must be replaced via the hotline.

Many thanks to everyone.

Resetting the HD box was apparently enough.

At first I was a little unsure because at the beginning everything looked the same with the operating software update. However, the whole thing was installed much more quickly.

So far it’s working perfectly, which I’m confident about (since the installation started immediately this morning).

However, according to “System / Overview” the “Entertainment OS” is version 3.1.

Show original language (German)

A reset always installs the current version. This is currently still 3.1 until the rollout is complete.

Hopefully 3.2 will come overnight.

@RomanE I took a quick look this morning because of the last post.

Now I have the problem again, with the difference that a reset didn’t help in the short term.

I’ll watch again tonight when I have more time.
