Set up an IMAP account on the Outlook app

  • Hello everyone

When I want to set up an IMAP mail account with my bluewin address on the Outlook app (Android), I have the well-known problem of not being able to send emails during the automatic setup.

    When setting up manually,

    smtp hostname

    smtp username

    SMTP password

    asked. The same with “imap”.

I haven’t found the relevant username and password information anywhere. I’ve already tried using my normal details (webmail and PC logins), but that doesn’t work.

Can someone give me a tip?

    Thank you!

      ! ADDENDUM!

After contacting Outlook support - really great service by the way, you get to deal with real people directly via the app![](https://community.swisscom.ch/html/@56675CEE52B2535AADE735290D6EE556/images/smilies /smiling.png “”) - I have the settings here that ultimately helped have:

If you had already installed the mail account on the app: Be sure to delete it first: “from all mobile devices”

Add new account. For me, after entering the email address, the app always wanted to connect to a Microsoft or Google account first. If that happens, simply click the “back” button on the cell phone and you end up in the selection window. Select IMAP there. Then enter your email address and password (yes, attention! You must use the password you use to log in on your PC (if you don’t know it, you can find it in the customer center login; see instructions in another post here), not the webmail password). THEN:

      Select Advanced Settings.

      Enter the following there:

      IMAP hostname: imaps.bluewin.ch:993

IMAP username: the full email address

IMAP password: the one you just used again

      SMTP hostname: smtpauths.bluewin.ch:465

SMTP username: the full email address

**SMTP password: the one you just used again
      **

So it finally worked for me:friendly_grin:

You can change the password in Kundencenter if you have forgotten it, it will no longer be displayed!

Important: The password has nothing to do with the WEB-Mail and Kundencenter login but is only for email programs.

        Good morning Walter.

Thank you. Yes, I know… the password thing 😉 But the password is the same as the one I use to set up an IMAP account on the PC, notebook,… with OfficeOutlook, right?

Do you also have an idea for the rest of my questions?Screenshot_20181025-061515_Outlook.jpg

Yes, that’s right, the password is the same for all email programs, e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird etc.

Have you ever used the instructions at the link below?

        https://emailsetup.swisscom.ch/guide/?accountType=imap&lang=de&step=manualAndAccountTypeSelection

N.B. If you don’t necessarily have to rely on Outlook, you can use the Bluewin app and everything is there for email.

It might also be worth adding that the port numbers should also be checked.

Here is the data at a glance.

Thank you everyone for your answers. I have used all of your tips. It just doesn’t work and I don’t know what I could do differently anymore.

Is there anyone here who uses the Microsoft Outlook app and has already set up an IMAP account there? I have already set up a 365 account, it worked perfectly, but it didn’t work with IMAP… 😞

With the combined information given by the various contributors in the thread, it should actually work perfectly.

Maybe you’ll recapitulate which settings you finally used so that we can rule out the possibility that you may have forgotten/mixed something up.

        Relevant are:

        Server names (incoming/outgoing)

        user name

        password

        Ports (incoming/outgoing)

        Encryption [SSL, TLS,…] (inbound/outbound)

I have already set up some “Androids” with Outlook. If the Android and Outlook app are up to date, all you need when setting up is the bluewin email address (e.g. hans-muster@bluewin.ch) and the associated password (not the customer center password, but the password for the email inbox).

The system takes care of everything else itself…

Glad it worked for you now.

However, the information you have now used is exactly what was already mentioned to you here 😉

        Show original language (German)

You’re right. That is also unusual.

Not only because almost all mail apps offer their own field for the ports, but because the ports used by Swisscom are also absolutely standard in terms of the remaining settings.

But well, when I look at the development of the Outlook desktop client with all the noticeable improvements over the last few years, I’m starting to suspect that Microsoft is specifically offering defective software here in order to encourage people to do so to use email addresses hosted by Microsoft because these are the easiest to set up compared to the sabotaged rest…

        Show original language (German)

Maybe Microsoft did some research (actually they probably use Google themselves) and found the solution:

        [https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/E-Mail/E-Mail-mit-Outlook-und-Android-senden-nicht-m%C3%B6glich/m-p/545924#M9728] (https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/E-Mail/E-Mail-mit-Outlook-und-Android-senden-nicht-m%C3%B6glich/m-p/545924#M9728)

Unfortunately, the search function of this forum is not really useful. In addition, users tend to keep rehashing everything instead of referring to existing solutions that they may not even be able to find themselves?

This is not an actual forum and solution archive, but rather a chat.

Surely you will come to a point about this at some point. But that wouldn’t really be necessary…

But as long as you can motivate users to repeat the same thing over and over again, this system works.

This is not necessarily a good idea to open multiple threads about the same problem!

It worked for me. After I was asked to reassign the password, I could no longer set it up.

I have two Bluewin.ch accounts. One works as IMAP and the other only works as POP3. Information from MyService:

Bluewin has problems with the Outlook app for Android. This has been going on for a long time. An ending or a solution in the stars…
