Error message in the morning Outgoing server overloaded, too many connections

  • Hello

I often get the error message on my Mac in the morning that no more emails can be sent via the IMAP outgoing mail server because there are too many connections. This is also true in that nothing comes out at that moment. In the standard mailer as well as in Outlook.

But then it always sets itself up again. Are these some hacker attacks on the server?

Next time I’ll copy the exact error message.

You write about a message regarding an outgoing mail server, but IMAP is always an incoming mail server. Regardless, that actually sounds a bit suspicious. Have you noticed any other unusual activity on the computer and/or VPN connections open? Post the exact message.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

    Hello @Koniferski
There was a similar error message recently:

It’s a different configuration, but maybe it will help.
The error message indicates that more connections than allowed are open or are not being closed. Do you access multiple Bluewin mail accounts at the same time?

Bluewin may have reduced the number of permitted connections on the new mail system.

Yes, that is the one. I mixed up IMAP. I access two of the five accounts you can have on the Mac - I redirect the rest. But iPhone, iPad and Mac do that. Since this used to work, it must be due to the new IOS or the new Swisscom thing.

    So something is wrong there.

As a beta tester, I have the iOS18.1 and MAC-OS 15.1 and no problems, it could be that an older version causes problems, but I didn’t have any problems with all versions.

I have exactly that too - but the final versions. This morning there was a “caution traffic sign” behind one of my two Bluewin accounts. Only when you click on it does the error message “Timeout connecting to the server” appear. Then there is (new?) the selection “Check connection” (everything was green) and the option to remain offline or to restore the connection (which worked). Did they do something there? I hadn’t noticed that before.
