Fritzbox 5690 XGS already in the certification process?

  • @Roger G: Is the Fritzbox 5690 XGS already in the Swisscom certification process so that the box can also be operated in the Swisscom network from the start of sales?

    • No, it has only been announced by AVM, but no dates yet.

Q4 2024? Sorry, I thought it was already the end of 2023… AVM announced the devices a little too early…
The first news dates back to February 2023.
(Don’t get me wrong. I’m looking forward to the devices. BUT AVM is exaggerating with the announcements, greetings to Berlin @AVM!)

I’m finally looking for a replacement for my Zyxel AX7501-B. The firmware support is too bad for me here.

I can’t tell you that either. AVM is constantly under pressure to deliver something. In my opinion they have completely lost their way. Way too many models, no discernible product strategy, too many different chipsets, etc. In my opinion they are trying to make the store more attractive since it is for sale.

I don’t think it has anything to do with marketing, except that marketing there just doesn’t talk to the developers.

As a rule, in the event of such delays, the finished product had different hardware installed than in the original idea; in the case of the 6850 5G it was a different chipset.

The 5690 XGS looked like the 5690 Pro in the original presentation. The 5690 XGS should now look like a “normal” frit (5530/5590).

Here is the answer from AVM:

    Good day,

Thank you for your inquiry and your interest in our products.

You’re right, the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro and the FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS have been announced for a long time (since the beginning of 2023).

The FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro will probably start in June / July. The FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS will also follow, but there is no specific date or date for the market launch yet. The proportion of XGS-PON connections is very small in Germany.

All known information about the FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS can be found here:
    [https://ch.avm.de/unternehmen/presse/pressenachrichten/2024/neue-fritzbox-modelle-performance-schub-mit-wi-fi-7-fuer-glasfarben-dsl-und-cable/] (https://ch.avm.de/unternehmen/presse/pressenachrichten/2024/neue-fritzbox-modelle-performance-schub-mit-wi-fi-7-fuer-glasfarben-dsl-und-cable/)

Unfortunately, further information about the specific market launch is not yet available.

Please follow our social media channels or subscribe to the AVM newsletter to stay up to date on new products:

Thank you for your patience and have a pleasant Tuesday.

    Kind regards from Berlin

It’s understandable since they mainly have GPON and they’re not in a hurry with the XGS version.
Maybe it should be mentioned again that in Switzerland we mostly use XGS and that they could make some progress for us 🤔

Switzerland is too small a market - the fries here are in small quantities compared to Germany

(Sunrise has had its own boxes for a long time) And iWay, Green, init7, etc. also don’t produce mass quantities….

And the frit users at Swisscom are probably in the 2-3 digit range at most…

All of that doesn’t really make things interesting for AVM…

    ….keep on rockin'

I still received feedback from AVM.

The FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS is scheduled to come onto the market this year. The XGS-PON support makes it particularly interesting for the Swiss market, so I assume that the Swiss version will come quickly.
