Handy richtig pflegen: So läuft’s rund

Keep your mobile running smoothly with correct maintenance

There can be many reasons for apps that don’t work, a lack of storage space or a low battery. However, we are often partly to blame because we ignore maintenance issues until it’s too late. And it’s actually not that hard to keep your smartphone in good shape.

Anyone who owns a car or a bike knows that vehicles require regular attention to keep them on the road. The same is true of smartphones – and yet mobile maintenance is often an alien concept. Here are some tips for improving the condition and service life of your device:

  • Check for operating system and app updates regularly. Old versions can impair performance.
  • Delete old data and apps on a regular basis, as unnecessary data can cause your phone to lag.
  • Instead of deleting apps, empty the cache. On Android phones, go to Settings > Apps > All programs > Empty cache. On iPhones, apps are found under Settings > General > iPhone storage. If you then click on ‘Offload app’, it will free up the storage space used, but your data will be retained.
  • Move your photos to a Cloud (e.g. myCloud or iCloud photos) and activate ‘Automatic backup’. Your pictures and videos are then sent straight to your online storage, and you can delete them from your mobile phone. This requires less storage, the system runs faster, and the photos are safe, even if something happens to your smartphone. You can also use your cloud storage to make a backup of your mobile phone (instructions for Android and Apple devices). It is best to always save your data twice, e.g. also locally on your computer.
  • With a few tricks and the proper handling, you can keep your mobile battery in good shape when it’s charging.
  • Cleaning is also part and parcel of maintenance. Keeping your mobile phone and case clean.
  • The screen protector and case prevent minor knocks causing major damage, as well as stopping scratches and soiling.

Thank you @LeaH & @CorinaS for this very interesting article 😀

Remarks:

Most recent smartphones running Android or iOS have integrated maintenance functions which allow for quick and efficient cleaning of anything that is obsolete, useless, superfluous, takes up too much space, unused apps, browsing data, saving money. energy, optimized battery charging, etc.

However, it remains very useful and necessary to remember this, so that customers with recent smartphones activate these functions and above all use them. Or for customers with old smartphones to use these maintenance tools to guarantee good general functioning of the smartphone and above all a longer lifespan 🌲

@CorinaS

In my opinion the most important tip is missing:

You should make regular, complete backups (images) of your cell phone, ideally twice, i.e. once in the cloud and once locally on the PC or a NAS. The manufacturer’s tools are best suited for this, e.g. Apple’s iTunes in the case of an iPhone. The backup to the cloud should be encrypted.

We have a Samsung S7 from 2016 that runs flawlessly in terms of battery.

I suspect that it has to do with the fact that the cell phone is always switched off completely at night and the battery can therefore recover well.

@papaja42

The battery does not recover just because the device is switched off. But the less the device is switched on and used, the fewer charging cycles are necessary and the longer the battery lasts.

On the iPhone, you can find the apps under Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If you click on “Offload app” for an app, the storage space used will be released, but your data will be retained.

I don’t think so. Because it doesn’t even exist on my iPhone.

iphone 13, iOS 16.0.2

@Takiotta91

If you have already activated this there (perhaps unconsciously), the corresponding switch will disappear. However, it can still be found at:

  1. Open your iPhone’s Settings app.
  2. Select the App Store section.
  3. Scroll down to the Offload unused apps option.
  4. Activate the option.

P.S.

Currently iOS 16.1
