Cleaning your smartphone – how to keep your phone germ-free

Always in use, but rarely cleaned properly: many smartphones are kept in anything but sanitary conditions. You too would definitely benefit from cleaning your device regularly. We’ll tell you why.

Whether on the bus, in bed or on the loo: your mobile phone is with you wherever you go. We scarcely hold any other object in our hands so often. So it may come as no surprise that your phone is a breeding ground for bacteria. As a rule, these are harmless germs. Nevertheless, caution is advised, especially during the cold season. This is because pathogens can survive for several days on your phone’s surfaces as well as in scratches and cracks.

How to sanitise your phone properly

  1. First, switch off your mobile phone and let it cool down. There’ll then be no risk of short circuit.
  2. Remove the phone case and clean it with a regular detergent.
  3. Remove coarser dirt particles from your mobile phone by hand to avoid scratches.
  4. Clean your phone with special cleaning wipes, screen cleaner or a soft microfibre cloth. Do not use detergent, soap or alcohol. Otherwise, you will destroy the grease-repellent protective layer of the touchscreen.
  5. Do not spray screen cleaner directly onto the screen and do not hold the mobile phone under the tap. Otherwise, liquid will get into the openings. Water damage will usually void the manufacturer’s warranty.
  6. Clean the ports with a clean toothbrush. Be careful with cotton buds and toothpicks, as they can leave residues or damage sensitive components.

Is that all too much trouble for you? With a steriliser, your smartphone is automatically disinfected with UV rays.
