Google Photos to MyCloud Photos

  • Hello everyone,

I have a lot of photos on Google Photos which I have also organized into albums.

I would like to move all of these pictures, including albums, to MyCloud, if possible all in one go without transferring them individually (by album).

    Is there such a possibility?

    thank you for the help.

    • user109 said a cloud backup alone isn’t too secure, but you are able to download your entire library using a Google tool.

      • Then select “Next step”
      • Set download settings as follows:
        settings.PNG
      • Click on “Create export” and the download will be prepared.

Once the download is finished, you can unzip the ZIP and you will find various files and folders:

Your Google Photos data will be exported in the following formats:

      • Photos
        • PNG, JPG, WEBP
        • Unedited and edited photos
      • MP4
      • Album metadata
        • in JSON format
      • Photo metadata
        • in JSON format

Unfortunately, you cannot transfer the metadata directly into the myCloud, but you can now store all the images in the files in a folder on your PC - which is equipped with the myCloud desktop. Be sure to create a folder for this, otherwise have fun moving it around individually 😅!

As soon as the upload is finished in the myCloud desktop, you can add your folder to the images in the myCloud web:

      • Access your myCloud at https://mycloud.swisscom.ch.
      • Select “Files” and open the folder that contains your Google Images.
      • Press the three dots and select “Copy to Photos”:
        move.PNG

Your images will now be loaded into your photos directory. Depending on the size of the folder, this may take a few minutes. If the process was successful, you can delete the folder with the images under “Files”. The images are now visible in the “Images” tab along with the other images that you already had in myCloud.

Because Google is not compatible with myCloud (or vice versa), it is not possible to create a direct export with all the albums etc. However, myCloud should suggest album creations to you from time to time and you can also use the “Places” filter to easily create albums from your last vacation at a specific location, for example.

This is not possible so directly and automatically.

only with some manual work and a detour via a local computer

In the meantime, is there a way?

    • Album metadata
      • in JSON format
    • Photo metadata
      • in JSON format

    to import photos into MyCloud.

This would be a really nice feature to transfer photos from Google Photos to myCloud Photos.

What does Swisscom say about this?

    @Zigrausay25,

I haven’t yet discovered a corresponding feature directly within myCloud, which offers such an option for importing “album metadata” and/or “photo metadata” and I’m also wondering how many would actually use it… there are ways to do this It’s always the question, the question is what the relationship between the effort and usually the return is.. 😉

You could probably initiate the necessary adjustments to the “album metadata” and/or “photo metadata” yourself, because the idea in itself is quite nice, but the question is a bit how compliant this “Google album metadata” is with regard to myCloud are 😁…and then we come back to the story about the effort.. 😅

…in my opinion there are much more important points of improvement at the moment 🙃 but that’s something else…

I completely agree with @dont_p4nic. Even though MyCloud will certainly gain momentum with the “shutdown” of the Google Photo allowance, the application cannot be compared at all with a service like Google Photos. That’s why I think there are only people here who use the system for backups and albums, but create them “quickly” themselves.
