Have new pilot project plans been defined for 2020? I would like to know if FTTC+ areas (community) can benefit from XGS-PON. I’m thinking of communities that have so far been excluded from the FTTS/B expansion plans! Especially those communities that are not even planned for expansion (e.g. Pfäffikon).
What do you mean by your statement “vectorized PUS not yet built over”?
The fact is, according to the expansion map it doesn’t look like that, but we would have already been expanded (the PUS installations or the last major expansion work without talking about vectorization took place in the community in 2012/13 😜).
Stupid, we’re still stuck on the curb… FTTC+ can’t be the “burner” here with around 7500-8000 (and counting) usage units.
Briefly back to the current topic “PON”, how are the (municipal) areas identified for the purpose of PON? defined? Do the communities have to contribute financially or can the property owners contribute to the pilot project? Unfortunately, my MFH (new building in 2017/12 NE) development was developed with copper/FTTC and, in my opinion, is in an undeveloped area. That would be interesting to find out because the condominium owners’ association was surprised that our property is (still) developed with copper.
Thank you @Anonymous
@robbieB As of today, our promise is that we will expand 100% of the communities, on average 90%, with at least 80 Mbit/s. We just keep making optimizations, e.g. the introduction of XGS-PON. This is available in the existing FTTH area and we will now build FTTH instead of FTTB. New buildings in the FTTS/FTTB area should be connected directly to FTTH. That’s the situation as of today and I can’t say anything more.

Pfäffikon (ZH) is FTTC vectoring, not FTTC+ (which would be an mCAN in the housing). FTTS with g.Fast is planned, but according to planning not this year. The locations of the mCAN are halfway planned (a few areas are still missing), but we cannot yet say whether there will be a change there due to xgsPON.

@Roger G and @Anonymous
Thanks for the interesting information. Well, at least something is happening, if not this year then next. You will definitely not necessarily be able to access the external guards, which currently have a PUS, with FTTS or, in the case of MFH, with FTTB.
Nevertheless, kudos to you for answering my questions!
Thank you guys 👌👍

I made the first request many years ago, when there was no GF in our village. At that time I was told to wait until the GF expansion began in the village.
When SC started expanding the GF, I got in touch again. The answer was that individual development was only an issue for 40 residential units or more, but in one or two years smaller units would also be considered with appropriate cost sharing.
So far so good, I asked again a year later and received the answer that they now wanted to concentrate on general expansion first and would not plan individual GF developments with new technology for 1-2 years at the earliest.
And now that another year is over and the next cooperation meeting is coming up where people expect current information from me, I’m back on the mat with the same question.
P.S.:
Incidentally, SC has never proactively provided information about individual development options with the homeowner contributing to the costs. I only received the above information because I have been very persistent in trying to keep up with the current status of things once a year.
@hed Absolutely in your opinion and this type of communication was completely unsuccessful in the context of individual development options for properties. In my opinion, this should optimize SC.
By the way, interesting point you bring up. I asked Netzbau ZH the same thing for my STWEG (property at 12 NE, yes with a technical room). Unfortunately, SC had distanced itself from this with a focus on large-scale construction projects. I had to accept that back then, because of the technology. Efforts in an FTTC network area. In this respect, copper cables were pulled from the PUS to my property (value over 5 million😉)…… @Anonymous @Roger G what is SC’s strategy, which will be used in the future in the access area of kl. Would you like to “drive” developments (which are at least equipped with a technical room)? Is FTTH finally possible with appropriate cost sharing, as the large developments can enjoy? This approach has been used for a long time in other countries, even in single-family homes (GPON technology used) 😜😉
