[Info] Replace the Swisscom router with a third-party router

Hello everyone!

I recently asked for help with setting up a third party router to replace the Swisscom router but no one had a complete solution. I found a lot of information that I’m going to share with you.

Here is the information useful for a configuration.

You will find all the information relating to the configuration of a Ubiquiti router here:

Happy setup everyone!:smileylol:

Ordered and received the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter

This solution works great, much more efficient and stable than the Swisscom router in terms of WiFi speeds and above all much more complete in terms of configurations (dhpc, nat, ports, VPN, firewall, etc…)

For the low price of the router I highly recommend it! Thank you for the quality tutorial!

Thank you very much for your feedback, I see that this tutorial has been useful to at least one person, that’s a pleasure 🙂

Don’t hesitate to put a little “like” 😉

Here’s a little extra tip, if you’re looking to increase your performance a little further, try activating hardware offloading (Hwnat).
To test, depending on your configuration it could be interesting! 🙂

Here are the commands to do in the Cli:
configure
set system offload hwnat enable
commit
save

And otherwise in terms of Wifi, the Ubiquiti APs are also great with a CloudKey or UniFi installed on raspberry!

Beautiful evening!

Thanks for the tips!

I didn’t need the Cloudkey or anything else, these smart guys don’t mention it explicitly in the doc but Unifi APs can work without the Unifi controller present on the network.

You just need to do the initial configuration from a Windows station with the Unifi controller software installed, then you have to put the AP terminal in “provisioned” mode and you can easily uninstall the Unifi controller and let the wifi terminal operate autonomously in its corner and let the router manage everything else (only the Guest Control and Band Steering functions will not be available in this mode)

Great tutorial! This solution seems really interesting.

I wanted to get started, but suddenly I had the question of connecting my HD-Phone landline.

I think I will not be able to migrate to this solution because of VoIP telephony. Damage…

Hello

Thank you for your tutorial, unfortunately it doesn’t work for me.

I have a centro business V2 in IP Passthrough on Lan 1 with a unifi usg 3, IP telephony and internet are Ok

But it’s impossible to get the TV, maybe I have something wrong with the addresses…

Thanks in advance to anyone who can correct me!

Other info when I change the channel it works for 5 seconds then the image remains distorted but the vod and recordings work

For info my box has a reserved IP 192.168.1.110

Unified Wireless Router 192.168.11

Wan1

172.31.255.6

router 172.31.255.5

There is nothing to do in the late Lan??

I think it’s because I haven’t configured igpm proxy.

I don’t understand where to find the json file to modify or how to configure with putty

Good morning,

First of all, thank you very much for the tutorial. I’ve done some for other things and I know the time and work that takes 😉

I followed it carefully and ordered a router like yours since the solution to change the Swisscom router was tried and worked… Unfortunately not for me 😞

The router loads the config as you describe it, connects to an address (10.9X….) apparently, according to other sites a provisional address… and then, the weird things… The Swiscomm validation page. . works… but a page arrives every 2, 3 minutes.. No problem, I wait… and after 15, 20 minutes the validation is done and bingo!!! I have internet… tested with 100mb/up/down..

Afterwards, the weird thing… the connection lasts one or 2 minutes and after… nothing… back to no internet, and I can still do the validation at “turtle” speed for the rest of my life 😞 If I do it even with the Swisscom router, validation is done in 2 seconds and it holds….

I noticed:

In your config I see:

client-option "send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;"

In mine (after making the order like you):

client-option “send vendor-class-identifier 100008,0001;”

When I try to modify the file /config/config.boot even by hand, the router doesn’t like it and if I “force” and reboot with double commas, it hangs…
Another thing, you have firmware 1.9.1 and I have 1.9.7 (the latest)

I’ve tried everything and I can’t.. An idea, a guide… would be more than welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Tono.

PS. I’m not French… sorry for the spelling mistakes 😞

Thank you for your quick response.

Yes, indeed, I had seen your post and I thought that it was not important…but yes, because after other English-speaking sites, Swisscom “records” the MAC or information to give access.

So, I did it. And the process takes… 15, 20 minutes!!! But we’re getting to the end… and I have internet. For… one or two minutes!! Afterwards everything cuts out again and I have to redo the process if I want to have 2 or 3 minutes of internet 😞

I’m really lost… after working as IT support and configuring CISCO routers.. I can’t get internet at home 😞

THANKS.

Tono.

Good morning,

What if you change the mac address of your ubiquiti router to that of the Swisscom router?

I haven’t tried it because I haven’t had this problem but maybe it can work. (Remember to take note of your MAC before changing)

I know there is a command to do this on ubiquiti routers.

Best regards,

Thanks again.

You are good 😉 This is one of the things I tried too..

For reference, the command is:

set ethernet interfaces eth5.10 mac 00:00:00:00:00:00

And no, no difference…

I’m continuing with my research… if anyone has any ideas…

I keep seeing everywhere that the famous vendor channel is:

client-option "send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;"

I always thought it was a problem with blogs with the translation “->”

But I’m starting to doubt… Because my config file is:

client-option “send vendor-class-identifier 100008,0001;”

The rest, you either have:

client-option "send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;"

either:

client-option "send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;"

As soon as I try to pass the "send… “100008,0001”;" in the config, the router says that it cannot “parse” double quotes…

Show original language (French)

Mhhhh…

I don’t know what’s wrong with your configuration.

Did you do this command:
configure
edit ethernet interfaces eth5 vive 10 dhcp-options
set client-option "send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;"
commit
save

If it doesn’t pass maybe you should export the configuration, edit it as a text file, then import it to the router?

Best regards,

Show original language (French)

Hello,

Yes, I do the commands several times and the router does not complain…everything is fine in the config…

If I try to edit the config.boot file with all the “ ” " and after I do the commands “show system commit”, etc., the router sees that the file is different from the current config, until then, Perfect.

As soon as I try to make a commit… nein… say the famous message “Can’t pass the double quotation”.. Sorry for not being too precise but from home I don’t have internet to copy -paste. 😞

Show original language (French)

It works…it works…I’m writing from home!!!

Well let me summarize… for others…. The solution… as I suspected, was in the """"""!

You must have: send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”; in the client-option. To do this, in the router interface:

You have to go to Config Tree -> interfaces -> eth5 -> vive -> 10 -> dhcp-options and in the client-option box put EXACTLY this:

send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;

Reboot and…voila…it works…

Now why putting "_send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;" in* the ssh interface of the router does not work??? So… I think that when we start the “config” command, we enter a very particular kind of interface and as I edit from a mac… maybe, maybe the games of the characters,.. . no idea.

Now, for reference and making a copy-paste of the config:

ethernet eth5 {
auto duplex
auto speed
lively 10 {
address dhcp
Internet description
dhcp-options {
client-option "send vendor-class-identifier “100008,0001”;"
default-route update
default-route-distance 210
name-server update

Greetings and thank you for reading me and trying to help!!!
