Hi,

Is there no way to connect VoIP phones to this network to receive calls with the number that Swisscom has assigned to us?

Thanks in advance for the advice…

Hello, I bought the same router except that I took the one without the sfp, I have vdsl, could I also replace my Swisscom router? And if so, in relation to the tutorial to follow, what should be modified?
I would like to try this router with my console and hope that I will reduce its damn online latency by half.. because it is unplayable..

Could you help me or guide me please?

Hi @smike2809,

If you have a swisscom telephone number, I advise you to get a SIP compatible telephone and activate the “SIP credentials”…

Benefits:

you will be able to call with your landline number from any internet access, as well as receive calls on your smartphone via VOIP application as well…

Good evening everyone,

I upgraded my internet speed from 1 gb/sec to 10 gb/sec with Swisscom. They provided me with their latest modem but they only offer it with 4× 1gb/sec and 1× 2.5 gb/sec ethernet ports… but it’s impossible to reach the maximum power. So I’m thinking of buying a good router from another brand with 10 Gb/sec Ethernet ports…. any advice?

hi @Prupleizu68,

I wrote you a note, but there was a problem and the message was not saved on the post… 😞

But in summary, I would still wait in your place before investing in a fiber router…

You already have a post under internet–> router and hardware talking about 10Gbit/s hardware if ever…

If you even want to buy one, make sure it is SFP+, and not just SFP.

Cisco makes a good router with a web interface now, unlike mine which is 100% configurable on the command line…but it costs an arm and a leg!

moreover, for a single PC, the only way to use your 10 gigabytes is to download, and all that to save a few seconds, the investment is not worth it from my point of view…

Roman

PS: 10Gbit/s is useless… it’s marketing to do like the operators who already offer it… But to have 10Gbit/s everywhere, you don’t have much choice, the manufacturers are not yet a lot to have gotten into it.

best way:

Hi @RSA and thank you for your response.

Indeed, I have already looked at 10 Gbit/s routers and we find very few with 10 GBit/sec Ethernet ports… The few that we find, the prices are crazy. To get the most out of it you would also have to change the computer’s network card which only supports up to 1Gbit/sec so a lot of little things to think about and I’m actually going to wait some more. Thank you very much for your response and wish you a good day!

Hi @RSA I just came across your post and I’m looking for a solution to replace the ib3. And currently the routers that I found do not suit me.

So that interests me.

I would like to know how to set up a 10giga fiber internet connection with this equipment?

Please enlighten me. 😉

Hi @Biorn1950,

Concerning the fiber, do you already have the ftth socket installed?

If so, you should already inquire with Swisscom if 10Gbit/s is available.

Before these 2 validated stages, you have time to see what is coming and the equipment to change…

there is also on page 8 or 9 of this post, a compatible Zyxel router:

If you need more information, just say.

hi @Biorn1950,

sorry for the late response… in fact, the switch does not do routing!

you take a fiber adapter / modem if you prefer which will manage the connection for you and then power your switch.

You see once again it’s nonsense, how with a media converter and a layer2 switch you manage to have an internet connection.

It has nothing to do with a router. Well, I don’t know, it’s still very basic.

It’s like the other one this afternoon that you told him to deactivate the vlan, inevitably it will fall out anywhere later.

Anyway, I’ll leave you alone but think a little, imagine I would have bought the equipment in the links and ended up with 500.- spent. (If you had put that in the one from this morning which has been struggling for 6 months I guarantee you it was ordered in the minute)

Okay, sorry, but it was the accumulation and condescension in your message that made me tilt.

Especially since it won’t be of any use

It’s this kind of adapter… behind it, you put a switch without anything else!

You have to check the fiber parameters and wavelength before buying, obviously…

ABE: https://www.zyxel.ch/fr/solutions/fiber-access/

A solution with a multimedia converter for FTTH “mit swisscom” in the equipment…

And under “development status”, we have forecasts for the extension in HOOO 2012…

Over the years, equipment changes, technologies change, but very rarely the solutions!

For those interested, I have a pdf that explains the config step by step.

And for my part, I have a Cisco router (C897VA) running DSL, which I will migrate to 1Gbit fiber this week if swisscom is willing to deactivate 10Gbit for me, a post is being created.
