**As a replacement for Gmail, I’m thinking of Thunderbird, which some contributors here recommend.

You’re getting things twisted here - you have a “salad”

Gmail and Thunderbird are like “apples and oranges” or like “black and white”

Gmail is an email service, you can open and use a Gmail address there

Thunderbird is not an email service, but an email programme; you cannot open a Thunderbird email address with Thunderbird.

You can manage different email addresses (mailboxes) in Thunderbird:
e.g. from Bluewin, Hotmail, Gmail, GMX, and integrate and manage other email addresses via IMAP

This one leads to this one. Alternatively via www.mozilla.org, then click on Products -> Thunderbird.

Thunderbird is not a replacement for Gmail, as Thunderbird can only access an existing mailbox, but does not replace it. You will therefore also have to open an e-mail address with a provider of your choice (as a Swisscom customer, for example, bluewin.ch) with Thunderbird. You will hardly be able to avoid bureaucratic and data protection frippery such as registering your mobile phone number and disclosing personal data with any mail provider, if this is what your comments about yesterday’s debacle are aimed at.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

      PowerMac

      Thank you.

I have no problem giving my personal details to suppliers and I do it regularly on Swisscom, Bluewin and other sites. I find it completely normal and even reassuring.
No, what I wanted was simply to have an address where not all my first and last names appear.
