Problems with Thunderbird / Swisscom

  • For weeks I have been trying to set up Thunderbird again with the email account from Swisscom. It doesn’t work with Swisscom Assistant and also not manually. I get this error message: I haven’t had any problems with Thunderbird for decades.

      My Thunderbird mail programme is running without any problems.

      I hope you are already using the correct password.

      Because it is not the Swisscom password you have for Swisscom Login.

      You can set a new password there under e-mail. -> It is best to save the password there again.

      Firstly, I would like to mention that I have been working with computers since the 1980s. I am not a beginner. THUNDERBIRD also worked with antivirus and VPN before. I assume that I am not the only one in this Milky Way who works with VPN and antivirus. I have changed the email password several times without success. It doesn’t work with my Swisscom Assistant either.

        In any case, Thunderbird works normally without problems even if I use it externally with the VPN setup from the Internet box, but otherwise no additional programmes such as “MySwisscom Assistant”, additional anti-virus protection programmes are installed on my Windows and Apple systems.

          Quite simply this: The virus software scans the inbox, and that no longer works.

          There are already enough posts about this.

          Microsoft’s Defender is already doing a good job.

          As a rule, you don’t need any additional software as it is no longer Win XP…..

          And if you only give the user user rights and do not also have admin rights, it is even more secure.

          Modern email programmes such as Thunderbird and even the mailbox servers themselves are getting better and better at protecting themselves against malware attacks and implausible login attempts.

          For example, when an account is opened in Thunderbird, Norton Security launches a man-in-the-middle attack on the queues for incoming and outgoing emails with the aim of being able to read the content of the emails itself.
          As this is then consequently assessed as a malware attack and not authorised, an active Norton Security also indirectly makes it impossible to open a new mail account.

              WalterB I say FUST and it worked. Thunderbird is running normally again and it really was the Norton Antivirus. Actually, I would have expected Swisscom to make a note of this in the instructions.
