latest update; big problems

  • I’m not sure who was following my problems here in the community:

    What happened so far:

I connected a separate monitor (or projector) to the TV Box 21 (for which the update is also being made) for the image via HDMI and the stereo system (or headphones) separately for the sound via the audio socket (mini stereo jack). .

I didn’t order the latest TV box because the separate audio Anschluss was omitted and no longer exists. So for me I need the old box. Unless I buy an adapter (from our own Porte Monnaie) which separates the image and the audio signal from each other. Such an adapter offers sources of error, a good one is expensive (almost as expensive as the box) and all of these adapters are connected to electricity and must be connected to the mains using a 230V adapter.

This would be so; just because the new box no longer has a separate audio output. (Also for anyone who may not have audio on their home theater projector.)

After my old box had loaded the update (Android update) (these boxes are updated otherwise you can no longer watch TV) there was no sound anymore!

I’m also technically savvy and found out that the problem couldn’t be caused anywhere other than the update; or the software version which this is; and which is the operating system for the new box. But the new box: doesn’t have a separate audio output and that’s why I’m sure; that during the update the program line that is able to control the hardware does not even know the audio Anschluss at the back.

(Now it’s getting exciting for everyone who had been following my problem)

Even though I had explained my problem to tech support for over an hour; there was no solution. So I decided to return the box as a guarantee case and that I would receive a new box like this.

After a bit of a long wait (a few phone calls) it worked on Monday and I connected it to the same cable connections as the other box before. EVERYTHING TOP TOP; - TV WITH SOUND!!!! WOW!!! Was the box really defective or was I right because the software update didn’t work and disabled the audio output due to a lack of programming on the UHD 1800 TV box…

In any case, after just a few hours: the inevitable intervention from Swisscom that my TV-Box was updated to the latest operating system: automatically; without me being able to do anything or prevent it; -

and when we finished; (my cooperation was needed again for the settings) no more sound via the audio jack.

SO THE FACT IS: WHEN I USE IT, THE AUDIO SOCKET ON THE DEVICE NO LONGER WORKS AS A RESULT OF THE UPDATE / THE AUDIO SOCKET NO LONGER WORKS AFTER THE UPDATE. IT’S LEFT TO WISH THAT THIS DON’T WORK LIKE THIS WITH ALL BOXES!

Sustainability: When I brought the previous almost new box back to the Swisscom shop; I was unable to include a note about the error I suspected on a piece of paper with the box. The employee told me: I had to bring the box just for that reason; that it doesn’t end up in electronic waste (I assume because it might end up in the ‘wrong’ hands of a tinkerer or something.) Anyone who wants to use the older box like I do after the update (the sustainability of the old box is nice is applied that a software update is sufficient) or have the new box: you now need an HDMI / audio signal separation adapter which is connected to electricity (Anschluss 230V) and you will probably have to buy this yourself.

I already have Google and the other things on my computer and I’m still a little tired of searching for things on YouTube with the TV remote control.

I don’t know the exact technical structure of the new AoT firmware for the TV boxes, but since it was originally developed for TV-Box 5 without a separate audio connection, it could well be that there is simply something similar to an “audio driver” for the IP1800-specific audio connection has been forgotten.

Let’s just ask @RomanE whether the topic you described of the non-functioning audio connection on the IP1800 under AoT is already known internally or perhaps still needs to be clarified.

Doesn’t seem to be a general problem, because the audio output works on my Box21 with the new AoT…

However, the problem appears to occur occasionally:

    ….keep on rockin' 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

@Plickaunne44 I can guarantee you that all interfaces will be taken into account and work during the migration. Just because the latest generation (TV-Box 5) does not have an analog audio out, that does not mean that this no longer works with the Android TV upgrade on the Swisscom Box 21. I just went through the upgrade again and I can assure you that the analogue and optical outs work perfectly. (Before, during and after the update, an analog amplifier was connected to the jack plug and a monitor without speakers was connected to the HDMI.)

The fact that you have no sound after the upgrade seems very special. Have you ever plugged in headphones and checked to see if you can hear something like that?

Even if the audio settings shouldn’t play a role, I would be interested to know how your TV-Box is set. (Otherwise try Settings->Video and Audio->Audio and Sound->Reset Audio Settings)

What kind of monitor or projector do you use? It would be helpful to know the exact models.

Regarding device returns: I’m sorry if you didn’t get the correct information in the shop. Swisscom takes the devices back and the devices remain in circulation. Returned devices are fully checked for functionality and other damage, cleaned and sometimes even given a new housing. The devices are then used as replacement devices. Only if the devices are irreparably damaged are they thrown into electronic waste and recycled properly.

Now that sounds really great. Maybe there is still an option in the settings after all; this would be phenomenal. Until now this was not possible in any way. As I said before the update everything worked without errors! (I hadn’t changed anything in the box ex works.) The main thing is that there is a solution. Factory settings don’t help, changing the audio settings doesn’t help… I’ll check again… But what’s going on with technical support…? - I’ll write if I found a solution…

The options you describe don’t even exist in my TV-Box menu. There are: Settings / Video Audio and then Image Quality / UHD Test / HDR / Audio & Sound / Image Quality for Apps. We have/I have already tried everything. Under Audio & Sound you can simply select one of the three sound variants. Of course, stereo is best for me - the others don’t sound as good. Don’t we have the same software? Of course I would have tried resetting everything, but there is nothing with the picture and sound and anything else…

How sound could be heard during the software update is a mystery to me.

In any case, it doesn’t work for me after upgrading to Android and there is no setting anywhere that would change this. Already the second time.

I don’t have the option to reset audio settings. There are no other audio setting options either. Resetting the entire box to factory settings doesn’t help either.

(I think the forum is the wrong place if it works for everyone else…)

@Plickaunne44 If you select the “Audio and Sound” item, you can navigate to the “Reset audio settings” item in the menu at the top right.

Stereo is definitely the right audio mode because you can only output stereo via this output.

If a monitor without speakers is connected to a device (in this case the Swisscom TV-Box) via HDMI, the monitor communicates the information via HDMI that it has no speakers and cannot process audio. To make sure this doesn’t result in the TV-Box not outputting audio, I tested it with a monitor without speakers and it works for me.

    I still suggest:

    1. Reset audio settings

    2. Use the TV-Box remote control to set the volume to the maximum (50/50)

    3. Check again with the headphones whether there is no sound

If no sound is output, the following could be checked: Unplug the HDMI cable from the TV-Box, unplug the power cable and plug it back in -> TV-Box should start up without a screen and HDMI -> wait until the box no longer flashes white -> with P+ on the remote control Change the station “blindly” a few times -> check with the headphones whether sound is being emitted. -> If sound is output, the connected monitor is the problem.

Thank you for the elaborate considerations!

Oh there are the audio settings reset; This was placed there at the top right. OK. (Today I’ll look for what else can be selected in the other submenus up there… Maybe something will happen there.

After resetting, the message came: Your settings have been saved. Unfortunately nothing has changed, it hasn’t helped. The sound is missing. No signal at the audio output. I’m familiar with hi-fi, so I don’t think anyone thinks that’s where the mistake is.

Also a good idea to start without HDMI or monitor. - There is no sound. Unfortunately…

Thank you! These are good exercises for Friday evenings and to stay young.

I will then try a reset without HDMI and with HDMI connected but the monitor is not. However, I think it doesn’t help.

And why not watch TV without sound for even a month; almost like a free crash course in lip reading. It’s absolutely amazing what’s going on here; provided it really still works for others after the update. As I said, it is now the second box that no longer works after the update.

    @EnSil

Are you having this problem now, if so, probably after an update?

Was the TV-Box already 30sec. Switched off and on (no power)?

Is the TV-Box connected directly to the Internet Box via LAN?

If all else fails, you can perform a reset with a paper clip. In this case, it is important that the TV-Box is connected directly to the Internet box via LAN.

The problem has now been isolated and reproduced. The problem affects installations where the imaging monitor has no audio output options (neither built-in speakers nor an audio out on the monitor). In this case, the box currently refuses to output sound completely.

We are currently working on a fix that will resolve the problem in a future release.

I connected the TV-Box 21 in the basement to a computer screen “AOC” without speakers via HDMI, the speakers are connected to the TV-Box.

For the speakers I use these at the link below and it works.
