What I noticed: hbbTV on ARD doesn’t work (unknown channel message). On ORF and SRF, however, it’s ok. I’m also wondering what function the Google button at the top left of the remote control should have. Pressing it doesn’t lead to the Google Store, but instead leads to a hang (the wheel spins endlessly in space)…

Hbb TV is currently started with a menu, but the stream is not started on the SRF, RTS, RSI programs. ARD is also not working yet, so we still have to be patient. Hbb will still be fixed, but the timing is not yet known.

But what do you do? You can download the respective apps for the channels from the Google Playstore, which will then work like Hbb TV.

The button at the top left, i.e. the Google Assistant button, is Google’s voice command button. You can use it to start apps or execute other commands, or even ask for messages or other things from the Internet.

Press the button until the LED lights up, then release it and speak the command into the microphone below the FB LED.

Sometimes it can take a few seconds for “Google” to respond, but that should also work faster.

That’s clear, but it’s a shame that the customer pays 99 despite the known problems.

An extensive beta test should have taken place here with end users and not Swisscom employees.

as was the case with IB4, for example, and the customer was able to register as a beta tester.

@acaillet

Many things can and have been tested, even by non-Swisscom employees, e.g. B. also from me. Many problems were reported in advance by the beta testers and also Swisscom customers and were then largely corrected and implemented. Since there are thousands of possibilities and combinations of devices, certain problems are only now coming to light. HDMI, for example, says hello. That’s why it’s important if they are reported here.

But other, “not so important” functionalities were deliberately left behind, including Hbb TV or PiP. But we’re already working on it there too

Hi @acaillet

It’s always tricky to buy new hardware straight away. Personally, if functionality and stability is important to me, I let others test it first. This is also referred to as “battle-proven” equipment.

If you only want to invest the money when everything is stable and running smoothly, I would make use of the 14-day return policy and wait a little longer 😉.

If it is a stripped down version of the function, the price should also be cheaper.

@acaillet … in order to then reclaim the discount amount received when the functions are there?

New devices “thrown” onto the market usually still have bugs and functions that will be added later.

Thanks to the apps that you can download, there is a plan B, at least for the Hbb TV content.

Everything else is already possible to watch today.

In addition, the box has many more options thanks to access to the Google Playstore…

But there are also customers like my wife and I. We put the new Box 5 into operation yesterday and everything is running great, no problem.

The Y cable I ordered for the dongle for the Logitech Harmony worked perfectly straight away.

It was clear to us from the start that as an “early adopter”

You have to live with possible restrictions until everything runs smoothly. You are not forced to buy the new box.

We had a voucher that we once received as a gift from Swisscom and were now able to redeem it.

@acaillet If the box works completely with all the desired functions in 1-2 months, would you then pay the difference between the 99 CHF and the purchase price that you currently imagine? Do you think that would be practical? What do we do in 2 weeks, if certain additional features but not all of the intended functions are working, should Swisscom then increase the price or adjust it weekly depending on which problem has currently been fixed? Do you know any Telco companies that do something like this? Can you remember the Horrorizon of the UPC? Is that how they proceeded back then until the thing worked to some extent?

Basically, the most important thing works.

If everything gets fixed in the near future, I think the new TV box is very cool with all the possibilities.

For my setup, only one box is actually enough.

And since it’s sooooo small, it’s pretty empty in our TV board😂😂😂

Oh yes, the new box is really tiny compared to the box with the fabric cover😁

So in the middle of the year the photo… now I can present it…

now on the topic:

I also feel that Swisscom released this box a little too early, but it will certainly work to the satisfaction of most customers if they know that the latest generation of devices have to be restarted every now and then 😉
