Oneplus 8t 5G

  • Good morning,

I bought a Oneplus 8t phone, sold as “5G”, and it turns out that I cannot activate this option on the Swisscom network,

    Who is responsible?

On the Oneplus side, I am told that Switzerland is the problem, but this is false because Sunrise offers 5G support for the Oneplus.

So Swisscom? What are you doing?

    • Hello @RodSand,

The conditions to benefit from 5G on the Swisscom network are:

      - to be connected to a 5G antenna

      - to own a 5G Swisscom phone (compatible with the 5G+ N78 (3.6 GHz) and 5G N1 (2100 MHz) bands for national 5G coverage)

      - to have a 5G compatible subscription

For devices that were not purchased from us, such as the OnePlus 8T, we cannot provide any information regarding compatibility with our network. Only the manufacturer can answer.

      Good day

Hi certainly you are not very aware of the blocking of the development of 5G.

Read on the following link and I invite you to read everything! THANKS

    @RodSanderson @Hello!

I think you misinterpreted @NathalieSI’s response. She did not claim that only devices purchased from Swisscom are compatible. She said that for devices not sold by Swisscom, she could not comment and that the question would have to be asked directly to the manufacturer.

Indeed it is the snake that bites its own tail!

Personally, I have a mobile purchased elsewhere than from Swisscom and 5G works.

A friend of mine also bought his mobile elsewhere and it works.

    Hello

I invite you to read the following article you will discover that the manufacturer of your device in question is responsible for the problem and not Swisscom

I believe @[deleted]’s article closes the discussion and provides a response to @RodSanderson.

The device in question may be 5G but the manufacturer hasn’t implemented everything needed to make it compatible with all networks. While other major manufacturers have done so (Samsung, Apple, etc.).

    Good day.

What is not normal is that microspot, galaxus and company… sell their product under “5G”… and then the customer has to fight between Swisscom and Oneplus.

For 3G and 4G there was no such problem… strange all the same.

For information, Oneplus uses the n78 standard, the same as Swisscom. If there is a blockage, it only comes from one side…

They want to force us to consume Apple or Samsung in the end.

I test many 5G smartphones and I have noticed this problem in particular on the Oneplus 8, 8 Pro, Note 20 Ultra snapdragon and so on. My conclusions are that this is not a hardware problem since all the devices tested are equipped with the necessary bands for Switzerland (notably the N78). It is a software problem on the part of the manufacturer which prevents the use of 5G depending on the region you are in. In the case of the Oneplus 8 for example, I had to modify a file called “Carrier Policy” for 5G to become active in Switzerland. For imported Samsungs. you have to change the CSC….In short, to avoid having to get your hands dirty, you have to wait for the manufacturer to deign to update the operator settings for the device in question.
