OnePlus 9 Pro 5G with Swisscom

  • Like many people, I think the OnePlus smartphones are simply brilliant, especially the software. But I wonder why the Oppo Find X3 Pro is officially offered by Swisscom and also supports 5G, but its “sister company” OnePlus does not. I am sure that OnePlus would also have huge potential in Switzerland. Swisscom would then be the only provider that would support 5G with OnePlus (which would definitely get many people to switch subscriptions). I’m not really familiar with these certification procedures, but I know that the OnePlus 9 Pro would run on the 5G network without any problems in terms of hardware. Will Swisscom also activate the 5G network for OnePlus devices in the future or will this not happen in the foreseeable future?

Any information regarding OnePlus and 5G in Switzerland would be wonderful.

Thank you very much and have a nice evening.

Wrong assumption: it’s not Swisscom that has to activate something, but Oneplus has to implement the necessary carrier information and then it works.

Oh, okay… My mistake. Until now, I’ve always read something different, saying that it has to be certified somehow by, for example, Swisscom. In any case, thank you very much for the information.

It’s exciting to see it as an unspeakable discussion when legitimate questions are asked…See the many discussions…Perhaps it would be time for Swisscom to clarify this topic once and for all (not in the form of forum posts)….because strangely enough Everyone sees it differently except Swisscom….But maybe Apple, Samsung, Motorolla or Oppo have something against it….

Apple Mobiles have certainly always had the fewest “provider problems” at Swisscom over the years.

Everyone has to judge for themselves whether this is due to the average wage level of Swisscom employees and their resulting preference for iPhones, or to the fact that Apple consistently does not allow any provider branding for the iOS operating system under their central control -) -)-)

Well, @Werner iPhones are only available to employees in the version from a year ago. Samsung. & Co. you can always get up-to-date information.

Android has the problem that there are no central provider settings. If Google did that, there would be no more problems.

And Swisscom has already taken an official position here more than once. But the people who just buy something and then see that it doesn’t work tend to insult Swisscom first. It’s the easiest 😉

Perhaps retailers in Switzerland could be more transparent. Digitec then likes to write that it is not officially available in Switzerland, but that they import it. Then the alarm bells should ring. Because if a manufacturer doesn’t sell it here, they probably didn’t care about it being here.

It’s just stupid that in the current case Digitec even writes that they are actively working with Sunrise to see that the OnePlus 9 works with 5G… strange why only with Sunrise and not with Swisscom 🤔 and why with the provider and not with the manufacturer? Questions upon questions…

    @Jossischa17

Why Sunrise? Because Digitec itself offers mobile subscriptions under the Digitec Connect brand. These run on the Sunrise network. You will soon also be able to use the 5G network with these Digitec subscriptions.

    It’s actually quite simple:

Manufacturers usually require network operators to test and release their devices for their network. The manufacturer releases a corresponding update so that the phone can use the functions on the network. Swisscom vehemently refuses to do this job for the OnePlus and hides behind the fact that the manufacturer can simply release it without testing because they have no blocks on the provider side.

Other manufacturers have simply released it without the carrier testing it, namely Google Pixel, Xiaomi and others.

Who is to blame: Both Swisscom and OnePlus. Swisscom because they are not participating in the OnePlus process and OnePlus because they insist on their process. Loser: The customers.

I spoke yesterday with a Swisscom technician, who confirmed to me how they can guarantee 5g coverage if they have tested the phone, when you turn it on you see their logo. their network is available, but my OP 9ro doesn’t read it, nor does VoIP.

I found the code *#*#4636#*#* which activates an internal settings menu, there you can enable the NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GMS/WCDMA network which enables 5G (automatic), but the reception remains on 4G+.

    and voip cannot be activated.

I will contact the technician again, who is very helpful, to look for a solution again.

I would hate to switch to Sunrise/Digitec, or even worse switch to Sam.

If anyone has any ideas, please suggest. try activating the network, let’s see if it works for you!

    Hi!

I managed to establish a 5G connection to the Swisscom network with my Oneplus 9 Pro.

Unfortunately, this requires some technical sensitivity. You have to adapt a file on your cell phone so that the Oneplus cell phone accepts the 5G network from Swisscom.

Here you can find the instructions:

    [Modify OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, 8 and 8 Pro, 9 and 9 Pro NR/LTE-A band combos - MT-TECH.FI](https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro -5g-8-and-8-pro-nr-lte-a-band-combos/)

Works for me, I’ve had 5G with Swisscom for days now. Yay!

    Cheers

Yep, once you have created the file, it takes about 2 minutes to copy it back to the Oneplus after an update.

It’s the only solution that currently exists. Oneplus would actually only have to officially activate the bands in an update.

So you just have to do it yourself until they are ready 🙂

    Cheers

And now we ask ourselves the question at which point Swisscom prevents access to the network…. #openNetz

Any manufacturer can make their cell phone fit for the Swisscom 5G network in seconds.

I’m still afraid to change a file on my phone. but if you tell me it’s like changing a file in the memory of a USB, it can be done.

the question remains… should it be Swisscom sending a new policy or OnePlus sending an update? Should it be Swisscom that tells OnePlus to add this policy? why is it not active directly as soon as the phone is turned on???
