Hi

It can’t be that your subscription throttles after 5 GB. According to Swisscom’s General Terms and Conditions, this is the case under the following conditions:

If the customer consumes more than 40 GB per month
Amount of data, the speed will increase
Maximum 2.5 Mbit/s download and 1 Mbit/s upload limited.

Roaming and other mobile functions are available
not available

My subscription is called Swisscom basic service.

But that’s your landline subscription, not your mobile subscription?

There is no basic service for mobile, it is always just best effort.

Basic services are generally offered via landlines. If this is not possible, a mobile or satellite solution is offered.

When it comes to the satellite solution, we depend on the provider (no, we don’t have our own things in space) and what they offer and at what price. The FUP (Fair Use Policy) also applies here, which limits traffic from 24GB (data traffic between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. is not included).

Consumption >24GB is not basic supply-like and very expensive for us. If someone in these very remote areas has such high consumption, then they should switch away from basic services and use an alternative solution (e.g. Starlink). There is no other option.

The same applies to basic services via mobile (has already been mentioned here). The question here is why you chose a basic service product and not another mobile internet subscription. I would think about what fits into the FUP for the flat rate offers in the monthly consumption. Ev. A consumption of >40GB fits in somewhere without violating the FUP.

Best regards

I know, digging up old posts and stuff…

But just saw it here. Maybe interesting?

According to the post, this now seems to be an affordable alternative.

Hardware costs 399.00 + 50.00 activation fee, then 65.00 per month and all of this without data limits, acceptable speed and ping values that are no longer beyond belief.

The choice of connection technology for the Internet connection should be in accordance with:
[https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/Archiv-telefonie/Wifi-Calling-scheint-nicht-zu-funktionieren/m-p/662138#M56537] (https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/Archiv-telefonie/Wifi-Calling-scheint-nicht-zu-funktionieren/m-p/662138#M56537)
the order listed.

For technical reasons, Internet connections via LEO satellites (Starlink or OneWeb) are better than Internet connections via GEO satellites (e.g. Swisscom basic supply). Before an Internet connection is implemented via satellite communication, an attempt should be made to implement a terrestrial Internet connection. See:

In the near future, OneWeb will also offer Internet connection via LEO satellites. See:

In particular, the high power consumption of Starlink (and OneWeb) must be taken into account!

When using an outdoor antenna, lightning protection must be taken into account. Therefore, the installation and alignment of an outdoor antenna should be left to a professional, fee-based provider! Fust is the authorized installer for Starlink in Switzerland:

The current status of Starlink and OneWeb network coverage can be found on the website:

track.

The respective Wikipedia websites provide a summary of Starlink and OneWeb:

OneWeb’s expected market entry in the near future will probably be the reason why Starlink prices are plummeting. It is hoped that Swisscom will ensure basic service in Switzerland via OneWeb’s LEO satellites in the near future.
