Is mobile data enabled on iPhone? Device already restarted? Please note that with Prepaid Plus you can surf for a maximum of 128 kbits. This is extremely slow and this prepaid plus is therefore not suitable for regular surfing. Opening each page sometimes requires a lot of patience. If there is no WiFi, you either have to be patient or buy a data package. Then the data connection is much faster. Without a data package, the Prepaid Plus is extremely slow and is only sufficient for sporadic and undemanding surfing such as sending WhatsApp, reading emails, checking SBB timetables, etc.
The Prepaid Plus from Swisscom is actually only interesting if you also have a Swisscom landline internet subscription, because only then will you get the first 500 MB with higher speed for free with the Plus.
For infrequent users with mobile data consumption set to minimal, this 500 MB/month is actually enough.
If you don’t have a Swisscom landline Internet subscription for the Prepaid Plus “gift-carrying” plan, but you do have a dual-SIM capable cell phone, then you’re better off buying a 0.4 flat rate from Digital Republic or just for the mobile data from Galaxus, and are at least three times faster than Swisscom at a slightly lower price of CHF 4/month.
If this isn’t enough, then simply try the next higher bit rate for CHF 10/month for a month, which will certainly be enough for every standard mobile need.

@Werner, thank you for your reply
I have a Swisscom landline internet subscription but didn’t have a free offer

If you have an internet subscription with Swisscom, you get 500MB of data (full speed) for free every month for Prepaid Plus. You obviously don’t have this because your prepaid subscription is apparently not “stored” correctly in the Kundencenter. Call the hotline and tell them to merge your prepaid. Then you automatically have 500MB of data for free every month, but this only applies with a Prepaid Plus.
Thank you, I will contact the swisscom hotline.
Now I have activated the additional package for 6.90, but the iPhone Safari browser still doesn’t work (?)
the apps work…

Hello @Linguscheiy64
Am I understanding this correctly, only Safari bugs? But other apps work. Important, Safari is also an app.
And apps it is important that you try an app that requires internet. For example SBB, SRF Meteo, or MySwisscom.
I know that it was once possible (certainly before iOS 18) to block individual apps from accessing mobile data.
According to [https://iphone-tricks.de/leitung/3386-apps-verstellung-des-mobilen-netzes-verbieten](https://iphone-tricks.de/leitung/3386-apps-verstellung-des-mobilen -net-ban) it goes like this:
To prevent individual apps from accessing the mobile network, you have to go to the Settings app and select Mobile network. Then scroll down a little to the subheading “Mobile data”.
Below you will see a list of all the apps installed on your iPhone. By default all buttons are green. This means that all apps are allowed to access the mobile network. For the reasons mentioned above, this does not always make sense.
I would check whether Safari is possibly blocked.
I found something else on Apple’s website:
If the problem persists and only occurs on certain websites or webpages, check whether Private Relay is enabled. You can temporarily deactivate “Private Relay” in the iCloud settings](https://support.apple.com/de-ch/102022). If Safari continues to not load websites and you’ve tried all of the troubleshooting steps above, contact the website developer for further assistance.
Maybe try that too. Otherwise, just download an alternative browser such as Brave, Chrome or Firefox in the App Store (via WiFi). And test it with that.
Hello, can someone help me. I’ve had an iPhone with prepaid for a long time and I get a 500 MB data package. That always worked great. Unfortunately this no longer works; if I don’t have WiFi, the internet no longer works. I’ve restarted the phone several times. That’s no use either. Have any of you had this problem and how were you able to solve it?
Hello @Esthi
This reminds me of the discussion:
[Prepaid Plus 5.– iPhone Safari cannot open the page, no internet connection](https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/Prepaid/Prepaid-Plus-5-iPhone-Safari-can-die-page- not-%C3%B6open-none/m-p/847007#U847007)
Possibly My answer (post 9) can help you.
@Samsi thank you very much,
swisscom Kundencenter helped me, now I have a cheap subscription offer instead of prepaid.
Safari still only works with WiFi….

Okay, so the hotline didn’t solve your actual problem, but in return it sold you a subscription, possibly with a minimum contract period of 2 years?
If that were actually the case, it would make all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up 🙂
But now to your real Safari problem on your iPhone. It has already been mentioned that individual mobile apps can be blocked or allowed in the mobile settings on iOS.
Mainly when using data packages (regardless of whether domestic or international), it is advantageous to only allow apps that you actually want to use via mobile communications, so that they do not eat up the data package unnoticed in the background.
It may well be the case, as has already been mentioned, that Safari is still blocked for mobile data and therefore only works in WiFi.
Below are 2 images under the current iOS 18 (it may look a little different with older versions), which could help you check this.
First, go to the “Mobile” menu under Settings:
Then select the “Show all” menu under “System Services” and check whether you have mobile data for Safari turned on or off (I’ve now turned it off for you to make it easier to see):

@Werner (and thanks to everyone)
It may actually be that mobile data was turned off for Safari
(I had only used prepaid so far)
Around 2:00 p.m. I received a mobile XS subscription (1.5 GB 100Mbit/s)
I had WiFi and mobile data turned on, attempts with Safari were negative
Updated the iPhone to 17.7, went shopping, thought it only needed WiFi
It was only now around 6:00 p.m. that I noticed that 1.5 GB was used up
Because in a panic I turned off all the apps and didn’t even notice whether Safari was on or off 🙂
I’ll get in touch again on November 1st, 2024… then I’ll have 1.5 GB again….
And only turn on ‘Mobile Data’ when necessary and turn off all unused apps
(thanks for the printscreen)
So if you have now purchased an ultra-expensive 1.5 GB/month, then the topic of excluding as many apps as possible on the iPhone from the mobile data will unfortunately continue to concern you 🙂
If it’s not a fixed 2-year contract that you’ve been locked into, I would actually cancel it straight away, because it’s much cheaper for a lot more data, including unlimited data.

You shouldn’t change anywhere spontaneously, but first become aware of your own needs.
You started with a prepaid Plus for CHF 5/month, and you were apparently already happy with it, even without the additional 500 MB higher speed that was available for free, except for the unresolved Safari problem, which has absolutely nothing to do with your data subscription had to do.
Then, as a next step, instead of the prepaid, which was not at all to blame for your Safari problem, you took out a subscription with a very poor price/performance ratio from Swisscom, which is 6 times more expensive and, as expected, has no influence at all Did you have a Safari problem and now you spontaneously want to take out your next subscription?
What’s the point of this completely unmotivated, acute buying frenzy all of a sudden?
So my urgent tip:
Sit back again, think about what purposes you want to use mobile data for, how often and in which countries, and be aware that your real needs, starting from the point at which you started, are very likely to be met in any case and at any time, even without special promotions can be covered for less than CHF 15/month.
