Playback from PC on TV-Box no longer possible (since update), bug?

  • I own the TV-Box 21 (IP1800). Since the Android 12 update, however, I have missed an extremely useful function:

So far I was able to stream one (or more) video/image files from the file explorer using the context menu: “Play on device >” to the TV-Box using a Windows 10 PC.

As a result, this file, or a compiled playlist, was played on the television.

Unfortunately this ended with the update.

The TV-Box or its “display name” is simply no longer given to me in the context menu, it is missing. Under “Devices and Printers” it is grayed out and shown as “Not connected” (“Status: Network connected; Device status: Not tied together”).

All devices are on the same network. The “problem” exists on all PCs (Win 10/11) and none of the two TV boxes I own are still displayed (whether on or off).

The TVs themselves will still appear in the context menu under “Play on device >” if they are turned on. Since they are a bit older, they do not support some required file types, codecs etc., so I prefer the TV-Box for streaming.

The update gave me one great new feature and took one away, so to speak.

Have you noticed this too? Does anyone know a solution? Or is this a known bug that is still being fixed?

    Thanks for your help!

Since Google is in the box, try the following.

Start the Google Chrome browser on the PC and drag and drop the file you want to watch on the TV. Then click on the three dots at the top right behind the input line and select “Stream, save and share” -> “Stream…”, and the Swisscom TV boxes will appear there too (these also use the Android 12 software).

Select the box and the image should be transferred to the selected TV box. You have to find out which formats are possible.

    Hello @Atmega

The only thing I know would be the app “VLC” or “Plex”

With VNC you can access a shared folder on your network.

I wasn’t aware that you could send to the TV box from your PC.

    Greetings Lorenz

What is meant here is the “VLC” app, which you can also install on the TV-Box.

You can then access files on the PC, provided that a general network share has been granted under Windows.

    That works, thank you.

I dragged the images into the browser address bar. But a new tab for every picture…

Unfortunately, it becomes quite complicated with multiple files.

I can apparently forget about self-created “playlists” like I used to.

Before the update, for example, I could select several files (videos/images) in the file explorer, then add more as I wanted and stream them to the TV-Box.

The network share has been missing since the update.

Please correct me if I missed something in the Google browser, i.e. to simply stream several files?

If you want to know exactly what works and what doesn’t, you have to take a closer look at the topic of Google Chromecast, because this is the technical feature that is built into both the Chrome browser and the Android TV of the newer Swisscom TV boxes .

And if this would not be satisfactory, as already mentioned, simply install the VLC Player on the TV-Box, as it will not be “pushed” from the PC, but the VLC Player is really very powerful and can “pull” all formats from the PC. and then play it back on the TV-Box, including playlists, etc.

    OK thanks!

I know VLC from my PC/smartphone so far. It can actually do a lot, I’ll read up on it first before I venture into the topic of Google Chromecast, if it’s even necessary afterwards.

(Still) it’s a shame that network sharing is no longer supported.

Thank you all for the help!
