WPA2/3 shouldn’t actually have any impact on speed.
First deactivate Wifi6 (AX) in the router menu under WLAN. There’s a button there. The iPad may have problems when a Wifi6 signal is sent. But if it wasn’t a solution for me, I would rather throw away the old iPad.
If that doesn’t make a difference, you can try the following:
Is it possible that there is only 2.4 GHz WiFi in the hotel? And at home the iPad also works on the 5 GHz band. This is actually faster, but there may be problems.
You can take a test at home. It’s a little more complicated, but then you get security.
In the router’s WLAN settings, set the federal administration to individual. Then give the 2.4 GHz WiFi a different name. Attention, all devices that have previously connected to the 2.4 GHz will then lose contact. But you can undo it again. Then connect the iPad to the new WiFi and see how it works. Then reconnect to the “old” WiFi, which should only be the 5 GHz WiFi.
I would be interested in the results.
