No Rewind or Fast Forward on Blue TV app

  • The Blue TV app no longer allows Rewind or Fast-Forward ‘for legal reasons’ which makes it pretty unusable.

Can someone explain what the legal reasons are and whether these features will be restored, for example by offering a premium subscription?

    • And83 likes that.
    • Hello @Wiffeijid50 and @And83

Thank you for your precious feedback.

I understand you are willing to pay more to be able to rewind/fast forward at your convenience, like you used to.

The point is regarding to the TV industry new agreement, fast forward can now only be used with a 7 days Replay subscription (either with advertising on Replay or with the Replay Comfort option). It is no longer possible to fast forward with a 30 hours Replay subscription.

The solution would be a new TV Air subscription with 7 days Replay, which is not planned yet.

However, I passed on your comments and was informed that the issue is being discussed. I don’t have further information to provide.

      Thank you for your understanding

The article you refer to is not relevant to my problem.

I do not have a set top box but use the Blue TV Air App on a smart TV, Ipad and PC, this costs CHF 10 per month.

Rewind and fast forward no longer work in the app and there is no possibility of purchasing enhancements to the app.

Rewind and fast forward are no longer features of the App.

    Hello,

Since a few days/weeks now, I can no longer “skip”, meaning fast forward (or even rewind) on my laptop’s browser when I watch any channel (mostly football games).

I used to be able to do it without any problems from any device, especially if I decided to record a certain football game, then watch it live, but still wanted to go back and forth to check a previous play a few seconds or minutes earlier.

Now when I watch a game (or any programme of any channel) live, even if I press “Record”, I can’t rewind or fast forward.

    This is what I see:

I do click on Edit subscription, but it saysI already have the paid subscription (Blue TV Air, 10 CHF/Month).

The only way to rewind/fast forward, is to watch Blue TV channels on the Blue TV mobile app. But I do not want to do that, given that it’s too small. Also, I don’t (want to) own a TV, I am fine with my laptop.

I used to be able to rewind and fast forward all channels. I have subscribed mostly to watch football games, and this month the World Cup is on.

Could anyone please provide their feedback on either how to fix this issue and restore rewind/fast forward, or confirm it is no longer possible? if no longer possible, I’ll consider cancelling my subscription with Blue TV/Swisscom and move to a paid Zattoo subscription, where rewiding/fast-forward is still possible from any device for all channels and programmes.

Thank you in advance for any help provided.

It doesn’t seem relevant, and in any case I did clear my cache, I did switch browser (Firefox) and device (mobile phone’s Chrome app, a friend’s laptop, etc.), and it doesn’t work: since just a few days (maybe 1-2 weeks) fast forward and rewind are only possible on the tiny screen of my mobile and only if I use the Blue TV mobile application. Strangely enough, I have a feeling this sudden restriction started with the World Cup.

So the “legal reasons or subscription upgrade requirements” of the “skipping info” which prevent me from using the rewind/fast forward functonality I’ve been using for years, are only valid if I want to watch a game on my laptop, but those requirements are not preventing me from rewinding a live game on the Blue TV mobile application? It doesn’t seem to make sense. Either the legal reasons and subscription allow me to rewind/fast forward on any device, or they prevent me from doing it on any device.

Thanks for your support and guidance!

Replay adverts on blue TV from 4 October 2022 | Swisscom Community

    Replay advertising from October

As of 4 October 2022, all national and regional TV distributors such as Swisscom or Sunrise must implement the new agreement. Initially, the Replay adverts will only affect 19 TV channels.

For the time being, you will only see the adverts with an TV-Box from Swisscom. From mid-November you’ll see them on all devices (smartphone, tablet, computer, laptop, Smart TV).

    Avoiding Replay advertising

To make blue TV as enjoyable as possible despite Replay advertising, Swisscom is offering the Replay Comfort option for CHF 6.90/mth for blue TV M, L and X. You can then use ad-free Replay on 19 TV channels. You can also still fast-forward the usual commercials when watching recordings or Replay TV, with the option to skip ads on up to 80 additional channels at the click of a button.

If you’d like to enjoy your films and TV programmes without interruption or the need to fast forward, you can watch the content of well-known media libraries free of charge and without advertising with blue Play.

None of this helps users of the Blue TV Air app, where no ‘Comfort’ option is available. Is there likely to be any upgrade to the app in the near future or should I just switch to Zattoo?

    Hello @Wiffeijid50 and @And83

Unfortunately, customers with 30 hours Replay subscriptions, like blue TV Air CHF 10.-, cannot rewind and fast forward anymore. We sent an email information to the concerned customers mid-October.

Swisscom no longer offers this option because this tariff no longer exists since the beginning of 2022, in accordance with the TV industry agreement. Scrolling is now only possible in the 7-days tariff, either with advertising on Replay or with the Replay Comfort option. Swisscom must now adjust this tariff to the launch of advertising on Replay, which is why it is no longer possible to use scrolling with the 30-hours Replay tariffs.

Please note that fast forward will continue to work for recordings older than 30 hours. More information is available on our website.

Other providers such as Sunrise or Zattoo also have to implement the new agreement.

I am sorry not to be able to provide another reply.

    Thank you for your understanding

    Have a good day

Your answer is not correct, the Swisscom website still offers the Blue TV Air subscription with 30 hour replay for 10 CHF for month:

    Swisscom blue TV Air

    • 250+ channels
    • 30h Replay
    • 60h recording

    1 month for free*

    Price per month

    10.–

I would be happy to stay with Swisscom if they offered a seven-day replay Blue TV Air option. Zattoo offers a seven-day replay option for 12 CHF per month.

    Dear @LeylaG and @Black Mamba,

I really appreciate your assistance, I do.

However, it feels like we’re trying to just guess, as we go, the underlying issue and then possible solutions which turn out to be either impossible, or irrelevant to my case.

    • I mentioned that I do not own a TV and only use my laptop’s browser, and the solution you have proposed (upgrading to the Replay Comfort option) is NOT possible for users like me, who do not own a TV and therefore a Swisscom box. Suggesting the Replay Comfort option to a subscriber who doesn’t own those items is not relevant.
    • I mentioned that on my mobile phone, Blue TV’s mobile app still allows me to rewind and fast forward, as if the legal requirements prevent me from rewinding/fast forwarding on my laptop’s browser but not on the mobile app… seems contradictory: why would the law and Blue TV/Swisscom allow me to rewind/fast forward on a mobile app (where the screen is tiny), but not on my laptop’s browser? Has this been thought through?
    • You mention that all other service providers, such as Zattoo, will also implement the same rewind/fast forward restriction I am experiencing on Blue TV. The fact is, that Zattoo has already implemented it, and they allowed me to upgrade without the trouble of having to own a physical box similar to the Swisscom Box, and I am currently enjoying the usual rewind/fast forward functionality and the problem is now solved. Blue TV/Swisscom, instead, offers a similar upgrade (Replay Comfort) but discriminates its subscribers that do not own the “box”: if you are a simple web-browser subscriber, you’re left with no choice but with the same monthly payment amount.

I am kindly asking Swisscom Blue TV to either offer

    1. an alternative solution to subscribers in my situation where the rewind/fast forward functionality is restored everywhere (with an upgrade, just like any other subscriber), without having to buy a TV and a Swisscom box-subscription;
    2. or, in case that’s not technically possible (and it’s quite disappointing), a discount on the monthly subscription payment to compensate for the reduced service and discrimination compared to other Blue TV/Swisscom subscribers (if the law prevents Swisscom/Blue TV to provide me with the same service as before, and if you can’t roll out the Replay Comfort option for subscribers like me, then it would be only fair to at least reduce my monthly payment).
I would be willing to pay more to restore the exact same functionality I used to benefit from for years, but if not possible, at least for fewer functionalities I should be able to pay less, if I’m being treated differently from other subscribers.

If none of the above 2 solutions are possible, then at that point I’ll consider cancelling my Blue TV subscription as I’ll probably move to Zattoo where, despite the exact same change of regulation, they did solve the issue easily through a seamless and easy upgrade, with no additional burdens, for any subscriber not just a subset of privileged subscribers.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Kind regards,

    And.

I agree with the person who said it renders blue tv beyond use if rewind and fast forward are not available. Trying to watch the Olympics is completely hopeless.

I have no idea if i pay for this or not (apple tv app), but I am now motivated to cancel and find an alternative solution; not willing to be manipulated by corporates desire for profit. I pay quite enough already in subscriptions that “do everything” except now they do not.

Shame. I pay for and expect superlative service and this is not it.

@someoneabroad The rewind function is tied to the subscription, whether you can rewind depends on whether you have a subscription that includes seven days replay or not and this is not only the case with Swisscom, but with all Swiss providers, as this is a regulation that has been agreed between the providers and the private broadcasters (so-called GT 12 regulation). Since, as you write, you use Blue TV via the app, you unfortunately do not have the option of subscribing to a subscription that includes 7 days replay. This is only possible with the Swisscom Box (Blue TV M, L, XL). The app is certainly a lot but not a superlative service, as you can see from the price. Other providers also offer subscriptions for Smart TV apps that allow 7-day replay and thus also rewinding (but are more expensive), e.g. Teleboy, yallo TV or Zattoo, you just have to make sure that you choose a subscription that includes 7-day replay.
