Replay advertising on blue TV from October 4, 2022

Dear community

Replay has changed television. Nowadays, commercial breaks are usually skipped. This has led to financial losses for the TV stations. In order for Replay to continue to exist, the television industry has agreed on a new common tariff (GT12) and new forms of advertising on time-shifted television (Replay advertising).

Replay advertising from October

Per 4. By October 2022, all national and regional TV distributors such as Swisscom or Sunrise must implement the new agreement. Initially, the Replay advertising only affects 19 TV channels.

For the time being you will only see the advertising with a TV-Box von Swisscom, probably from mid-November on all other devices (smartphone, tablet, computer, laptop, smart TV).

Avoid Replay Ads

In order to make blue TV as pleasant as possible despite Replay advertising, Swisscom will in future offer the Replay Comfort option for blue TV M, L and X for CHF 6.90/ Mt. on. This means you can use Replay on the 19 TV channels ad-free. You can also continue to fast-forward the previous advertising during recordings or on replay TV and even skip them on up to another 80 channels with just one click.

Don’t want to fast forward and enjoy your movies & TV shows without interruption? Via blue Play you can watch the content of well-known media libraries free of charge and ad-free.

If you have any questions or suggestions about the new Replay advertising, leave us a comment. We look forward to your discussions!

In preparation for Replay advertising (from October 4th), a blue TV update must be made. The software will be rolled out in stages over the coming weeks. The update also fixes minor errors and further improves the display and use of blue TV.

Then it came true with the price of CHF 6.90 at Swisscom, which was briefly visible online 😉

I’m curious to see how many people will pay extra for it.

But for everyone who is frightened… it’s not quite as bad as normal advertising.

The main advantage is that the show starts after the short spot and continues in the right place even after the forced commercial break.

Anyone who was a fan of the pause function to see a small detail in the image will be annoyed, because an advertising banner now covers the image, unfortunately this is now the case without the additional option.

And another thing, the maximum 130 seconds of compulsory advertising is enough for you to go to the fridge or to relieve yourself in the toilet (well it could take longer…)

@Stonck13

Nobody can promise that or are you clairvoyant or do they work at Zattoo?

Of course they won’t be asking for anything for the next few months, but nobody knows what it will look like in 1 or 2 years.

Not in the future either.

UPC also said that the merger with Sunrise would not change anything for customers. A month later, at least some of the customers already received the announcement that the phone would cost CHF 5 more from August.

Of course Zattoo can say we cover the additional charge for replay. How long this will last remains to be seen. Since 2021, Zattoo has paid 2.- per customer per month so that they could fast-forward advertising. It is now 7.- and from 2026 8.-

I believe a price increase at Zattoo will come sooner or later.

Assuming Zattoo Ultimate, and even if it doesn’t say a price increase, I wouldn’t be sure. Zattoo now also has to pay the 7th (from 2026 even 8th) instead of the previous 2nd to these broadcasters. So you might just have to wait a bit.

I’m not worried at all about what will happen to the prices in 2024 or 2026. What is important is the here and now and what happens in the next 2 to 3 months.

TV prices have hiddenly increased everywhere in the last 5 to 10 years.

Nobody can say what will happen in 2 to 4 years.
