Smartphone reinigen – so wird dein Handy keimfrei

Cleaning your smartphone – how to keep your phone germ-free

Always in use, but rarely cleaned properly: many smartphones are kept in anything but sanitary conditions. You too would definitely benefit from cleaning your device regularly. We’ll tell you why.

Whether on the bus, in bed or on the loo: your mobile phone is with you wherever you go. We scarcely hold any other object in our hands so often. So it may come as no surprise that your phone is a breeding ground for bacteria. As a rule, these are harmless germs. Nevertheless, caution is advised, especially during the cold season. This is because pathogens can survive for several days on your phone’s surfaces as well as in scratches and cracks.

How to sanitise your phone properly

  1. First, switch off your mobile phone and let it cool down. There’ll then be no risk of short circuit.
  2. Remove the phone case and clean it with a regular detergent.
  3. Remove coarser dirt particles from your mobile phone by hand to avoid scratches.
  4. Clean your phone with special cleaning wipes, screen cleaner or a soft microfibre cloth. Do not use detergent, soap or alcohol. Otherwise, you will destroy the grease-repellent protective layer of the touchscreen.
  5. Do not spray screen cleaner directly onto the screen and do not hold the mobile phone under the tap. Otherwise, liquid will get into the openings. Water damage will usually void the manufacturer’s warranty.
  6. Clean the ports with a clean toothbrush. Be careful with cotton buds and toothpicks, as they can leave residues or damage sensitive components.

Is that all too much trouble for you? With a steriliser, your smartphone is automatically disinfected with UV rays.

Here is Apple’s version of the disinfection of iPhones/Ipads/Ipods:

**Can I put sanitizer on my iPhone?
**You can gently clean the external surfaces of your iPhone using a wipe moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol or 75% ethyl alcohol, or a disinfectant wipe. Do not use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Avoid moisture entering any openings on the device and do not immerse your iPhone in any cleaning products.

You should avoid “aggressive” products containing hydrogen peroxide, bleach (chlorine in general) and quaternary ammonium compounds. A product based exclusively on ispropyl or ethyl alcohol. Personally I prefer isopropyl alcohol, because “technical” ethyl alcohol is often denatured with substances that may not be harmless (camphor, rosemary essence, different esters or ketones (solvents)). This is to make it unfit for consumption. This is not the case for isopropyl alcohol which is “pure”, prefer dilutions of 60-75% which are more effective for disinfection (they evaporate a little more slowly, which prolongs their action on the bacteria and therefore increases their effectiveness).

Also avoid products containing additives such as glycerin or chlorhexidine. which leave “greasy” deposits.

Good morning,

I have been a Swisscom customer for a very long time and, this is not the first time that this has happened, I read the article relating to cleaning smartphones linked to your newsletter. Then, having clicked on yes, I found this article interesting, this opened my access to my Swisscom to end up on the same article relating to cleaning. It’s stupid!

Cordialement

In the age of rampant allergies (more and more people have hay fever, for example) such articles are completely counterproductive. The article itself says that the germs on cell phones are harmless in most cases. Precisely because we live too cleanly, clean too much everywhere, and want to get rid of as many germs as possible in the apartment, kitchen, toilet, bathroom, etc., more and more people have allergies. (An allergy is when our immune system gets bored because it comes into contact with too few germs because it is generally too clean.) So we don’t need fewer germs on cell phones, but rather more.

According to the medical wiki:

An allergy is an excessive reaction of the immune system to foreign substances from the environment. These allergy-causing substances are called allergens. The exact causes for the development of allergies are still not fully understood.

So much for the current state of science.

I don’t go to the bathroom with my cell phone, nor to the supermarket, nor do I carry it in a back pocket of my pants, it is in a case on my table or closed in my bag. I will take it with my next shower.
