10 Tipps für mehr Sicherheit im Internet

10 tips for greater Internet security

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as 100% security on the Internet. However, you can reduce the likelihood of an attack by following certain principles. The following 10 tips show you how to navigate the Internet more safely.

Tip 1: Protect access to devices

Use face ID, fingerprint or other types of biometric encryption to lock your smartphone or computer, preventing access to anyone else.

Tip 2: Update software

Check that you always have the latest versions of apps and programs on your devices, which ensures that they are continually improved. Updates are installed automatically, depending on your settings.

Tip 3: Take a critical approach to websites

Never disclose personal data on suspicious websites. Websites full of adverts, pop-ups and spelling mistakes are unlikely to be trustworthy.

Tip 4: Only shop in official stores

Low prices can be tempting but they are often too good to be true. You should only download apps and programs from official sites, such as Google Play or the App Store.

Tip 5: Do not access e-banking on external WLANs

Do not access your e-banking or personal accounts through a public network (such as in a cafe). Wait until you are on the Wi-Fi or mobile network at home to protect yourself from unknown access.

Tip 6: Back up data regularly

Back up regularly and store your photos and videos in a cloud. This ensures that you won’t lose your data if you lose a device and allows you to access it through the Internet (e.g. myCloud).

Tip 7: Use secure passwords

Protect the data in your customer account with a secure password. A password manager (such as Identity Security) can help you to remember your passwords.

Tip 8: Take a critical approach to messages

Beware of fraudulent e-mails and SMS! Fraudsters use phishing and false names to steal personal data. > How to protect yourself from phishing

Tip 9: Double login protection

Double the protection for your accounts by using two-factor authentication. In addition to the user name and password, you will also be asked for an SMS code. > Activate secure authentication in My Swisscom

Tip 10: Report fraud

Have you received a fraudulent message or been the victim of a cyber attack? Report your case to the National Cyber Security Centre or get first aid on iBarry.

What I think is still missing:

- Only disclose your email address to as few, trustworthy partners as possible

- Always keep device BIOS, firmware and drivers up to date

- No longer use devices with operating systems that are no longer supported by the manufacturer online

- Only install as few programs and apps as necessary

- Only communicate encrypted over public WiFi, e.g. via VPN

And as an addition to the topic of backup:

- Implement a multi-stage backup concept (including external physical data backup)

- Also make regular backups of your email

The fact is, the biggest security risk is in front of the screen.

Because malware now has to be installed intentionally.

Therefore, the user must have Brain 1.0 installed and, very importantly, activated.

For example, an email like this comes:

Dear customer

[…]

Otherwise we will take legal action. Details about this can be found in the appendix trojanhorse.exe.

Kind regards

When activated, Brain 1.0 reliably prevents the installation of malware.

To note:

Admin password query during installation: An unpatched security hole in the OS circumvents this.

Install only signed software: Malware can be signed with a stolen certificate.

The GUI that informs the user about the progress of an installation is usually switched off for malware.

Therefore, a simple click is enough and it is immediately installed in the background without the user noticing anything. You think to yourself, what kind of junk did I get and then probably disposes of that file after the unnoticed installation.

It is therefore important to activate Brain 1.0.

Item 8

If you receive messages from La Poste, inviting you to manage the delivery of a package, click twice slowly on the sender’s address. You will be surprised by what is hidden behind!

There is also the mix with a telephone call, e.g. support from… who then provide access to software or hardware from the pc/mobile phone. z.t. Is this possible if IP addresses and tel. a user’s number is known.

z.t. In the event of threats/problems with software or homepages, you will also be contacted via telephone. Announce numbers that you should call and then software or PC authorizations can be obtained by fraud

In the past, I was able to appreciate the quality of the “Swisscom” services and I am thinking of subscribing to them soon. We must first find a solution to the mobile line.
