ROFL, I can just imagine a journey with a kilometer long cable to the internet box.

I searched for it on my trusted search engine and apparently there are occasional problems with DRM on the FireTV Stick.

I assume you don’t have another streaming stick or an HDMI cable from the tablet to the screen at hand? (You may be able to buy the cable in the Swisscom shop and exchange it after 14 days if it does not work as desired).

P.S. If you have TV M or higher: Does the same message appear when playing bluePlay content?

Hello everyone

Video on demand, live sports events and encrypted channels cannot be played on some computers, monitors or tablets. The reason for this is the lack of digital rights management support on the devices. In order for all content to be played, the browser must support DRM and all components (monitor, cable, graphics card) must be HDCP 2.0 capable.

Greetings Samuel

@SamuelD But that doesn’t explain why I was able to watch all private German channels without any problems until April 3rd, 2022 and not since April 8th, 2022.

Nothing has changed in my components within this week.

I have never used a Fire Stick.

So that you can stream from an Android device, do you have to install the AirScreen app on the stick?

This is then perhaps not compatible with newer DRM protection?

With a 40 CHF Chromecast stick you don’t have this problem.

Contrary to the assumption that, like all other providers, you cannot stream to a screen (completely absurd), it works perfectly with Chromecast or Apple TV (Airplay compatible devices).

According to my clarifications, the channel was activated on April 6th. DRM encryption (Digital Rrealmanagement), for use on the web and TV app, is activated on 20 additional channels. Swisscom therefore meets the licensor’s legal requirements.

Digital rights management is a type of copy protection that does not prevent copying, but is intended to control the use (and distribution) of digital media. With blue TV Air, the DRM affects all channels that are transmitted in encrypted form. This includes all subscribed premium channels such as blue+, Sport Events and blue Video, but also channels that are included in the normal Swisscom lineup such as AXN, Discovery Channel, Vox, etc..

In order to play the content, the entire playback chain must support DRM.

@Tux0ne, I don’t need to install any additional app. The “Wireless Screen Projection” or “Screen Mirroring” function is integrated on the stick.

…and as written - until a week ago everything worked without any problems and there were no restrictions. I haven’t done a SW update since then.

@SamuelD; then that is the explanation. Thank you for your clarification.

This also includes RTL, RTL2, Pro7…?

Is there a list of which channels are affected by DRM?

If I can no longer stream to a larger screen while on vacation and the app isn’t available for Android TV either (both of which are now a fact), then it has definitely become worthless for me.

  • SamuelD has responded to this post.

Screen mirroring or screen projecting is not the same technology as Airplay or Miracast.

With screen mirroring, it is common practice that DRM-protected content is not transmitted. Similar to when you want to take a screenshot in the app and the image remains black.

It may be that this may have worked. With a device that supports Miracast or Airplay, you don’t have this problem. It would be tragic if it stopped working. With screen mirroring, I would be rather surprised that it has worked this way so far.

@Tux0ne, I may have expressed myself incorrectly:

    according to instructions:

    1. First go to the “Settings” of your Amazon Fire TV.
    2. Open the “Sounds and screen” settings there.
    3. You can enable Miracast using the Enable Display Duplicate feature.
    4. The next step is to display the name of the Fire TV and wait for the connection.
    5. You can now search for the name displayed on your smartphone under “Duplicate screen” (depending on the cell phone/tablet, this means different things).
    6. Tap on the name of the Amazon Fire TV to start streaming via Miracast.
    7. Now all the content on your smartphone will be transferred and you can start apps.

Now it depends on how you do it from the app on your smartphone/tablet.

If you can stream from the blue TV app, i.e. real streaming, (the Fire Stick would then establish the connection to the streaming server, the smartphone would only be used for control) it should actually work, at least that’s how it is with the Chromecast. That would be with this standardized symbol, unless Swisscom came up with the idea of generating its own symbol again (like with iOS)[upl-image-preview liId=46351i81B332E1674428E2 alt=Download.png uuid=5400a04d-5567-42c7-9f0c -9e15633fb3ea]

But if you project the image directly via the settings on your smartphone/tablet, i.e. establish a point-to-point connection with the Firestick, as a rule. Combined with a fairly modest image and high battery consumption on the smartphone/tablet, it won’t work.

      These are 2 different things,

The former would be streaming as in the title. The second would be screen mirroring, which is not streaming 🙂

We have now activated encryption for the channels on this list, as required by law.

Does the technology used allow me to broadcast individual programs in encrypted form?

If so, the relevant broadcasters would only have the opportunity to broadcast the content where visual protection is required by the rights holders in an appropriate code, while it would still be possible to receive the other programs freely.

Oh, and @aki-ch then, as I suspected, it’s a problem with the FireStick that doesn’t implement the DRM correctly. Maybe the Amazon helpline or something similar can help you.

@Siberian-steel sure, I hope so too. However, if you notice that this is the case with a channel, it will help people who want to watch the channel on an external screen.

On the other hand, it also becomes quickly apparent if a station can no longer be viewed by mistake, even though this does not correspond to the station’s wishes.

@hed on the list are channels that require Swisscom to install higher vision protection for 24 hours.

I find it difficult to imagine that this will be reversed overnight.

If so, this would be particularly worth mentioning, as it would allow these broadcasters to win back viewers with external screens.

Urgent call to ALL Swisscom Community members!

Is there at least ONE person here who has been able to stream blueTV to the television using a cell phone or tablet since April 6th, 2022 AND does not have an iPhone, iPad or AppleTV???

Please use RTL or RTL HD for your test and not SRF because SRF still works.
