WiFi Calling: better call quality over WLAN
With WiFi Calling, you can make calls over the WLAN network using your smartphone and your own telephone number – even in places where you cannot connect to the mobile network. This article explains how Wi-Fi Calling works and everything you need.
Poor mobile phone reception at home? In well-insulated Minergie houses, for example, or an office in the basement, the mobile signal is often weak. WiFi Calling, also known as WLAN calls or VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi), ensures better call quality.
How does WiFi Calling work?
With WiFi Calling, your smartphone automatically connects to the WLAN instead of the mobile network when making calls. It doesn’t matter which WLAN you are connected to; your phone remembers known networks and connects automatically as soon as you are nearby.
WiFi Calling only works in the Swiss network with your mobile subscription. However, you can use it to call international numbers from within Switzerland.
What are the benefits of WiFi Calling?
- There is no additional charge for the calls; they are charged at the standard mobile rate.
- You can be reached anywhere, even in places with poor mobile phone reception.
- You make calls using your own mobile number.
- You don’t need an extra app.
- Your phone will automatically search for the best WLAN.
- Voice quality is better than if you make calls using a Messenger app such as WhatsApp or Skype.
What do I need to use WiFi Calling?
- A smartphone & operating system that support WiFi Calling (Android 7.0 or iOS 10.3 or above)
- Une bonne connexion WLAN, p. ex. via ta propre connexion Internet
- WiFi Calling will need to be activated once on your smartphone
