In order to think about and discuss the 10 Gig standards, you don’t have to physically have the IB4 in your hands. There is enough information in the standard documentation and also experience, for example with 10 Gig-Nic in the PC or with 10 Gig switches. And the 10 Gig port of the IB4 will certainly adhere to the relevant standards.

Unfortunately I only have copper at home, otherwise the registration would have been out for a long time 😉

I feel exactly the same as @Lori-77 😂. So if you need two poor copper customers at Swisscom for the test, please contact us 😎. We test again extensively as with the IB3 ✌️.

Did I understand correctly that I would need to have FTTH for the field test? I only have FTTS… is that also possible?

Must be FTTH. This box does not have a copper port

@hwro FTTS is not the same as a fiber optic connection but rather a glass connection on (MCAN) then on copper. This means you cannot take part in the test because a fiber optic connection is required in your apartment.

@Herby that’s the question that needs to be tested. I don’t have a fast PC with fast NVMe memory.

But it’s good that you know what’s available on the Internet 🙂 Our servers in Azure and also in the data center, which are connected with 10Gbit and to which I push content every day, see things differently. Especially since you only get around 8Gbit net with XGS Pon anyway.

This is certainly a very interesting test, because such real high-speed access from a Swisscom private connection to a “non-speed test server” is still one of the absolute exceptions.

The question will then be whether via a VPN connection or not, and what maximum capacity you as an individual user will receive from the company network and the Swisscom backbone.

In any case, once you have the IB4, it would be exciting to hear something about your specific experiences again.

Yes, runs via VPN directly into a Barracuda CloudGen Hub in Azure.

I am also interested in the question of what is the maximum possible. 8Gbit is no problem from the office, including to our other locations via Azure Backbone.

I’m currently using my 2.5Gbit to 100% capacity, so I’m quite confident that I’ll at least get over 5 🙂

The question arises as to what the average utilization looks like. I have often taken measurements at Geschäftskunden where 100 or more employees “only” hang on a 1 gig Anschluss and the utilization was on average well below 100 Mbps. And if you looked at the duration of full utilization, it was a maximum of 10 - 20 minutes per day.
