There are a few duplicate channels on Swisscom TV such as “Duna”, “ATV Avrupa”, “Rai Sport” and “ITV Granada”. It would have been better to remove these, as they are already available in HD under a separate broadcast slot.

OK. So with a station like Hotbird 4K1, which was transmitted encrypted most of the time, I understand that operating the encoder and processing it into the signal chain is no longer worth it for Swisscom in terms of energy. You had the hardware, you didn’t have to pay for a license. So all that remains are the operating costs in the form of energy and a bit of maintenance. That probably says a lot about the broadcast time for end customers 😆

That’s not true.

UHD 1 (Astra) is encrypted in the evenings and on weekends, strangely enough they are (still) sticking to the channel.

Hotbird 4K1 is not an actual broadcaster with a real program, it only broadcasts demo material.

Good day

We have seen that HGTV UK has unfortunately been removed and only the German, Italian versions are available in dubbed form (with English audible in the background).

Unfortunately, both channels cannot be watched in two-channel sound, but only in this strange hybrid. This is very uncomfortable for native English speakers to listen to. Will this at least be available in dual channel at some point when the UK version is no longer available?

Thank you and best regards

Carolina

What is currently going on with the pay TV channels and the deletion of free TV channels such as Dubai Sport or M4 Sport is very weak. I’m glad I don’t have a Swisscom TV. Those were exactly the channels I watched in between. I still have the channels on satellite.

@Stonck13 This may be a loss with Dubai Sport, but with M4 Sport a lot of content could not be seen for licensing reasons, which is certainly one of the reasons why the channel was removed again has.

Well, I don’t have a problem with that. Still have the channels. At M4 I actually watch the Hungarian football games. It’s true that a lot of content is actually blocked in the European version.

I have now found a solution to permanently get a picture on M4 Sport.
I can’t fully understand why the channels were switched off. Well, whatever, it’s just the way it is, I don’t have to care.

When will Swisscom also feed in the channels that are available in 1080p? (Swiss programs, ARD, ZDF, etc.)

And above all, I am still of the opinion that today’s data rates (approx. 6/s) in HD are no longer sufficient to deliver a clean, in-depth signal even on large screens. Because internet connections were getting faster and TVs were getting bigger and better. The image quality delivered by Swisscom has been the same for years. Soagar Zatoo has about the same image quality despite streaming. You can see the effect of this excessive compression immediately when you compare a SAT signal 1:1 with the Swisscom TV signal in HD. (depth of field, plasticity, etc.) and especially in tone.

An advance would be to offer those channels that are available in Full HD, like Zattoo. And some of them are now. It would also make sense if you could choose from the UHD box whether the box is upscaled to 4k or the TV itself, since the newer TVs have massively better upscalers. Even Netfix looks better and especially Apple TV and Disney. So I was able to compare Zatoo, Swisscom Box and SAT, Blu TV App on the same TV. Many people think that if they have faster lines they get a better picture. This is a mistake because the stream is sufficient on the slowest lines so that the signal reaches the masses in a widely distributed manner. But I think Swisscom should be able to differentiate itself from Zatoo and co in terms of image and that would be possible if you want. Apart from the image quality at Swisscom, which has been stagnating for years, the offering is otherwise very good. Many people think HD is HD and there is no difference. No. That’s just not true. You can clearly see the compression. If you’re not used to anything else, you take it for granted and see it as good compared to non-HD channels, which is true in that sense. A test with the Blu TV app showed that the quality dropped slightly compared to Swisscom Box.
