Internet-Ausfall? Mit dem Smartphone aufs Heimnetzwerk

Internet down? Get your home network back online with your smartphone

Has your home Internet access been cut off due to local network maintenance works? You can still access your home network using your smartphone. On this page, we explain how to use your smartphone to get back online.

The solution you can use to reconnect to the Internet despite local access not being available is called “Internet Mobile Connect”.

What is its advantage over a hotspot (Direct connection with mobile phone)?

The devices connected to your Internet-Box stay online because the Internet Box uses your phone’s mobile internet connection. You do not have to reconnect each device. Only blue TV is not supported. You can however use the blue TV app to tide you over.

Please note: Internet Mobile Connect does use your smartphone Internet allowance and will incur costs if you do not have unlimited data.

Installing Internet Mobile Connect
**

For Internet Mobile Connect, you just need your smartphone and a USB cable.

  1. Connect your smartphone to your Internet-Box with the USB cable (charger cable).
  2. Make sure that the WLAN and mobile data are switched on.
  3. Activate USB tethering (mobile hotspot) in the settings of your smartphone. > Instructions for Android and iPhone

The link in the email I receive has solutions for the Internet box, but with the Centro Business I hope that the failover works, I found out. But Swisscom sends me to a page where there is nothing about Centro BUsiness…

Depends on the business subscription.

If you have inOne SMEs without a fixed IP or Smart Business Connect, you could switch to Internet Box 3 and then it would work as Swisscom describes. It doesn’t work like that with Centro Business. But…

If you have a fixed IP or Smart Business Connect or a Centro Business 2.0 for other reasons, you can implement automatic mobile failover with the Business Services M or L module. Described here: [https://www.swisscom.ch/de/business/kmu/internet-festnetz- Fernsehen/internet/zusatzdienste/aussicherung-internet-backup.html](https://www.swisscom.ch/de /business/kmu/internet-festnetz- Fernsehen/internet/zusatzdienste/aussicherung-internet-backup.html)

That’s what companies would do and not connect a smartphone to a router 😂

Hello @Philippe72

Thanks again for your input. We have now adapted the community article and the help page accordingly so that it is clearer that this suggestion only affects customers with an Internet Box.

Kind regards, MiriamF

It’s interesting that I have to pay for the internet and then have to use my 4G credit if it goes down. The least that swisscom would have to give you is unlimited 4g access in the corresponding month!!

But Swisscom was customer-friendly 20 years ago and today it’s all about cashing in

@Gioschietta42 Where does it say in your contract with Swisscom that they guarantee you 99.99% internet access?

And how long does the outage normally last? days? Months? No. Usually just minutes or, in the worst case, hours. Only in extremely exceptional situations. And Swisscom is certainly accommodating.

There are also books… 😉

What’s worse is the increasing free beer mentality.

Hello @Gioschietta42

If your line keeps failing, it needs to be looked at more closely.

Either there is something wrong with your supply line.

Or your home installation has errors.

Have you ever had a technician measure your line? If the error is on the supply line, Swisscom must fix it. But if the fault is found in the house, you are responsible for it.

What speed should you get with Swisscom Checker?

What speed does your router get? 192.168.1.1 and left on the green arrow for the standard router.

Good morning,

You are never too old; but you have to go step by step.

When you have a problem (which I don’t wish you to), come here. Say what’s happening, what’s wrong and we’ll guide you step by step.

The Hotline (0800 800 800) will also be available to carry out the various operations directly with you.

Good year.

Hello, I am preparing for a service interruption of the interbox for network maintenance work in my street, the image above shows a cable (that of the phone charger) between the phone and the internetbox, thus suggesting a physical connection to the modem rather than wireless. I can’t do a test because my students are doing their exams online at the moment. Will this cable be necessary to operate “mobile internet connect”? (a priori yes) and will my mobile be available for telephone calls during “mobile internet connect” use? (a priori yes, but not practical if the cable must remain connected to the internetbox). THANKS.

And your information email asks to “leave the internetbox connected” during the work. If I divert the connection via my mobile phone (instead of the phone’s ADSL line), will it be considered connected as you wish for your post-work tests? ps: I don’t plan to remove the ADSL cable during “mobile internet connect” but only add the phone’s USB cable. THANKS.

@Pgdfam

Good morning

Best called the free Swisscom Hotline at 0800 800 800 because here on this forum we are mainly customers like you and it is difficult to respond for this type of case.

Good morning,

In fact, it is the charger cable which will connect the mobile and the internet box to its USB input. You will have to leave it plugged in while you use the mobile as a modem. This should not prevent you from calling with your mobile. Not very convenient if your cable is short.

Leaving the internet box plugged in means not turning it off or disconnecting it from the ADSL socket.

But as @Doremi says, it would be more prudent to have all this confirmed by the Hotline and to do a test before the line is cut.

The internet connection will be closed for 60 minutes on January 21st from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. due to maintenance work.

Nobody can say when exactly that will be. With home office this is an imposition. The alternative via cell phone is not entirely clear to me. Also, can someone tell me how much it costs if I have to work in the hotspot via my cell phone for over 6 hours. I don’t have a subscription and work with large amounts of data.

Greetings

Ulrika
