ASUS RT-AC68U and signal swisscom

Good morning,

Quick introduction to start, my name is Thomas, I have been with swisscom for a long time. I currently have a vdsl2 subscription at 100Mb (with swisscom TV but no landline). I just moved and before I was on 1Gb optical fiber. My router is the internet box plus (with the black top and the digital display, I don’t remember the name).

With my move I took advantage of acquiring an Asus Rt-AC68U modem/router, with the intention of putting the Swisscom router in Bridge mode… Of course you saw me coming, I didn’t check before, thinking naively that Bridge mode was a standard on routers…. And there surprise no Bridge mode available…

So I looked through the forums and the various docs I could find there in order to find a solution… Misery.

In my research, in order to do without the swisscom modem/router, I saw that I needed to configure option 60 and that I also needed the IGMP Multicast and IGMP Snooping proxy options for the TV. I so installed the Merlin Firmware on the ASUS which gives me the necessary configuration access to option 60.

And that’s where I need you. I tested yesterday without success unfortunately. I tell myself that maybe I’m doing something wrong. Here is what I tested:

option 60.png

I’m not sure which fields I filled out.

In information required by your ISP:

- Host name I left blank

-WAN MTU left as is

-MAC address I indicated that of my swisscom box (written on the label below the internet box

-Option 60: 100008,0001 (I have seen several variants 100008,0001,asus or 100008,0001,Netgear,D7800 for example, I don’t really understand this phase)

-Spoof LAN TTL value I left on no (didn’t really find any info on this option)

then, in the IP TV tab of the asus router

VID.png

During my research on the internet I saw people talking about putting the VID on 10.

This is where I am, but the router tells me that the cable is unplugged, therefore not conclusive (I would try again by leaving the configuration longer, I remember now that when I first started it there was a certain waiting time.)

Where I ask for your help is to find out if someone is in the same situation as me, and if by chance they managed to pick up the swisscom signal with the ASUS router.

Or if people with good networking knowledge noticed an error in my approach, or if simply a parameter that I don’t know would block my approach.

Thank you to those who take the time to read me

Kind regards, Thomas

Hello,

I have the same project as you, replacing the swisscom internet box with an Asus router…

Unfortunately I find that there is not enough information from Swisscom on the configurations to apply. (DHCP 60, etc.)

A helping hand from Swisscom would be welcome! Just to have a little guide on configuring a “non-swisscom” router.

Good luck, if you find a solution I’m interested!

Hello Looney,

You cannot receive the VDSL signal with your Asus RT-AC68U router, because it is not a VDSL modem.

The WAN port of your router is intended for Ethernet.
(see https://www.asus.com/ch-fr/Networking/RTAC68U/specifications/)

Asus produces a VDSL modem/router, it is the ASUS DSL-AC68R
(https://www.asus.com/ch-fr/Networking/DSLAC68U/specifications/)

Regarding the different DHCP option 60 configurations that you have seen, only the first two parameters are essential, i.e. “100008,0001”.

To imitate a Swisscom router, the settings provided are as follows:
“<service-Provider-ID>,<service-ID>,<CPE-ID>,<vendor name>,<MAC OUI>,<model>,<running firmware version>,<serial number>”.

The Swisscom help page for commercially purchased routers:
[https://www.swisscom.ch/fr/clients-prives/aide/peripheriques/internet-router/routeur-externe.html](https://www.swisscom.ch/fr/clients-prives/aide/ peripherals/internet-router/routeur-externe.html)

Courage, you are reaching your goal.
