Limit WiFi times with an app

  • Hello everyone

I heard that the Internet (WLAN) can now be limited in time with an app. Can someone tell me which Swisscom app it is, because I couldn’t find it.

    Thank you very much

This is available in the menu on the Internet Box Standard and Plus.

E.g. it looks like the picture below.

But then we talk about child protection and that is also available.

    See e.g. the picture below.

The condition is that a router is from Swisscom or can this (in our upper floor) be from Netgear, for example?

and does an app have to be installed on the device (iPod)? If so, where can I find this app?

As already mentioned, this is available on the Swisscom Internet Box and is also set there in its own menu; nothing is set on the blocked devices.

and the app also requires the internet box, see further information at the link below.

Netgear is not just Netgear… There are devices (routers) that can do something like that and those that can’t. So it depends on the device/model. And no, you usually don’t have to install anything on the end devices.

I don’t know the apple group’s devices exactly, but afaik they also offer various settings for restriction. Just look:

    6 days later

Unfortunately, both options (generally limiting WLAN operating time and restricting certain devices via the child protection function) are useless, as the WLAN can be set again at any time directly on the Internet box. This definitely needs to be corrected.

Tip: Talk to your son, do something like draw up a “contract”. This means he commits himself to turning it off at 9 p.m., a good foundation for later and you have less administration. Later it is 9:30 p.m….

The computer does not replace the missing communication. This applies to companies as well as to families.

Unfortunately, this tip is only of limited use with teenagers at home, as any agreements/insights come to an end and the desire to use the WiFi outside of the agreed times fails.

A function called “child protection” should work independently of insight/voluntariness.

    That’s not true!

Child protection cannot be bypassed using the WLAN switch on the Internet box!

The WiFi switch has nothing to do with child protection.

    Agree to disagree.

For me, both the general operating time setting and the individual setting of individual devices can be bypassed; unfortunately, the WLAN can be switched on on the I-Box without any problems.

Which Internet box and which firmware do you have?

There is a new beta firmware which improves a lot. It is important that there is currently no direct support, but here in the community you can get some information as the beta is already in use by several users. The beta version has also worked for me without any problems so far.

Link to users who have installed the beta.

If I activate child protection as a test, it works.

If that’s the case, that would be a huge mistake - but I can’t reproduce it myself.

If I restrict Internet access for any device using “child protection”, then I can press the WLAN button on my Internet box as much as I want, Internet access remains blocked for the affected device.

    Important to know:

The “child protection” does not work via WLAN, but rather the Internet access itself is blocked (regardless of whether LAN or WLAN) for the affected devices

I installed the beta firmware. No changes, the WLAN can be turned on or off directly on the I-Box at any time, regardless of the operating times entered in the I-Box settings.

That’s how it should be, but it doesn’t work for me.

I know that, but I just want to restrict WiFi access.
