M-Budget Surf Stick -> Is it possible to operate a SIM card in an iPad?

  • Hello everyone

I would like to know whether it is technically possible to operate the SIM card of a M-Budget Surf Stick in an iPad or a notebook (WWAN module, i.e. without the Surf Stick), for example?

    Thank you in advance. 🙂

    • yes, it works without any problems, provided:

-the device is without Netlock and/or SIM lock, or if it has a Swissscom SIM lock

-The size of the SIM card may need to be adjusted/punched - afaik a Micro or Nano SIM comes in one - depending on the generation.

The disadvantage is that you don’t see the remaining credit because the tool “M-Budget Data Manager is missing”

    Great - thank you! 🙂

I wasn’t sure because the M-Budget mobile website says “SIM lock” among the features of the Surf Stick.

And the M-Electronics sales staff didn’t know 100% either.

I actually wanted to have this tariff switched to an old Swisscom prepaid SIM card, but I can probably forget about that
Sure, with a pure data subscription it doesn’t matter what number you have (except SMS) .

EDIT: Do you have this tariff? Aren’t you constantly topping up your credit? I imagine that it should be “taken with caution” (i.e. email and occasionally visiting a website).

The SIM lock applies to the stick, not to the SIM card. M-Budget and Swisscom SIM cards go on the stick, because Swisscom-Mobile “=” M-Budget-Mobile

yes, I have this tariff. Of course, reloading is like this: it really depends on your surfing behavior.
Youtube and other streaming services suck brutally on your credit, but that’s a no-go. When it comes to app downloads/updates, you also have to keep an eye on the app size.

But normal surfing on forums, email (without large attachments), SFDRS.ch weather, news page works without any problems, it works quite well.

Can a nano SIM be easily punched out of a SIM card? If not, do you know whether I can get the surf stick with a nano SIM? If yes, where? M-Electronics or would it be better to go straight to the Swisscom Shop?

Don’t you happen to work on Citrix via iPad? I would be interested to know how much data volume a (half-) hour Citrix connection uses.

No experience with it, but I don’t think so. It’s best to ask at the SC shop

I’m not aware that there are surf sticks with a nano SIM. Afaik it’s only available with a mini SIM

I have to:smileymad: work in the company on Shitrix - luckily only administrative software. Luckily I can work Daily Bussines on the normal desktop 😉 But only on the laptop - no tablets in use. And on a laptop, not over the 3G network, only LAN or WLAN
