Strange phenomenon (IB3, no internet connection)

Hello everyone

I have an extremely strange phenomenon at home that is slowly but surely driving me crazy šŸ˜†

It happens relatively often when I restart my Internet Box 3 that the connection simply no longer works.

WiFi etc. is all there, works, but I canā€™t access the internet.

Usually the problem manifests itself like this:

- Devices are connected to the WLAN or via LAN, there is a connection to the home network, but no connection to the Internet

- When I log in to the IB user interface, the message constantly appears that I should wait until the box has completely started up (but this message never disappears, the box stays there forever, I canā€™t log in)

- Ultimately, the only thing that helps is a reset using a paper clip on the device

Then yesterday evening a new/different problem:

- I had to cut off the power in the fuse box because I was doing something on a socket, so the internet box was also without power

- Power turned on again, WiFi etc. everything is back, but no internet connection again

- I thought it was that time again, Iā€™ll probably have to pull out the paper clip again. I logged into the boxā€™s interface (which actually worked once, so not the same problem as described above)

- The user interface of the box shows me that there is an internet connection, but unfortunately this is not trueā€¦ (Speed ā€‹ā€‹test directly via the interface doesnā€™t work either, for example)

- By chance I noticed under the ā€œDiagnostics Informationā€ section that there was no address listed under DNS server. So I set the DNS server to manual and entered the address from Google (8.8.8.8) and lo and behold, the internet is running again

- This morning I set it back to automatic, restarted the box, still no internet connection, currently only works when I enter the Google address

Does anyone have an idea what this could be?

I intentionally havenā€™t done a reset with paper clips yetā€¦

Lg

If you switch the Internet box off and on, it takes 5-6 minutes until the LED lights up white again, meaning there is an Internet connection.

In such a case, a reset is completely wrong because the Internet box has to reinitialize itself again, and it can also happen that the speed is reduced more and more.

How is the Internet box connected, via copper or fiber optic?

In any case, in your case, I would contact support (via cell phone) if the error occurs again and mention it with the DNS address.

If you activate the checkbox for DNS automatically, what will be displayed?

    See example image below.

Installationen, Netzwerk, Internet, Computertechnik, OS Windows, Apple und Linux.

Well, I also waited 30-45 minutes (after a restart) without the connection working again. With a reset it always worked again immediately. Normally - if a reboot goes smoothly - the box is ready again after just 1-2 minutes.

The box runs on fiber optics.

If it works, then it works problem-free. As I said, the problems only occur every now and then after a restart.

If I set the DNS mode to automatic, there is nothing under DNS server 1 and DSN server 2, it is simply empty (as of today).

    @Lukahjin

So if this DNS problem exists I would contact support.

You can also try it as a test instead of Google DNS, enter DNS 1.1.1.1 by hand and turn the Internet box off and on and see if it then connects to the Internet.

What software version does the IB3 have? And which fiber optic version do you have? Does the box synchronize at 1 GBit/s or at 10 GBit/s?

    Iā€™ve now tested again.

When I set DNS back to automatic, no internet connection

If I set the DNS to 1.1.1.1 once, internet connection is OK.

It also works with Google DNS 8.8.8.8

As food for thought: Also check whether there is another router or device in the same subnet that could cause a DHCP conflict or even an IP conflict.
