Configuration IB and Pi-Hole

  • Hello

    would like to use Pi-Hole.

Do I understand the procedure correctly:

    1. Assign a fixed IP to the RPi
    2. Set the DNS server on the IB to manual and enter the above IP
    3. then the Pi-Hole DNS is used
    4. Or alternatively specify the DNS 195.186.4.162 currently preset on the IB as the upstream DNS on the RPi?

Also, what happens if the RPi fails? Is there the possibility of configuring a fallback on the IB?

    Thanks and greetings

      1. assign a fixed IP to the RPi \==> e.g. 192.168.1.20

      2. at the IB set the DNS server to manual and enter the above IPScreenshot 2019-11-08 at 12.29.38.png

      3. then the Pi-Hole DNS is used (you can set the new DNS server at 192.168.1.20/admin)

      4. Or alternatively specify the DNS 195.186.4.162 currently preset on the IB as the upstream DNS on the RPi? If you want to use Swisscom DNS, you can do this.

Also, what happens if the RPi fails? Is there the possibility of configuring a fallback on the IB? See above, simply specify the second DNS in the IBx web interface, e.g. 8.8.8.8

yes, great, thank you! I’m very happy because the advertising in the apps is now gone.

I also have the impression that surfing is a lot faster now.

        Maybe it’s also the Quad9 DNS (9.9.9.9)?

has been running since Friday evening, on a Pi 1B:

Hi. Does anyone know how I can use DHCP from the IB but still be able to see the device names in PiHole that I have entered in the hosts file?

        Hello everyone,

I would also like to install RaspberryPi with PiHole. I still have one question about the setup: how does the whole thing work with devices (cell phones, tablets, etc) that communicate with the IB via WLAN. My wish would of course be that when members of the family surf on their cell phones, advertising would also be suppressed there. But there shouldn’t be any difference whether the request comes in via WLAN or cable, right?

        Hello @aga_peter

All your devices that you have in your network, regardless of whether they are WiFi or LAN. And then you can get DNS automatically via the Pi Hole.

It can simply be that certain websites no longer open if you block too much there.

But you can also put certain pages on a withlist.

        Hello @mischl

On my Pi Hole I only see the IP address of the device, but if I’m wondering, I check the DHCP server to see which device it is.

        Greetings Lorenz
