Repeater with a different SSID?

  • Hello everyone

I bought a Swisscom WLAN repeater for the upper floor of our house. I also installed this as a repeater. Now I basically have two networks at home: “meinnetz” and “meinnetz-RPT”. Why does the repater have to have a different name?

You know it from hotels: hotels are equipped with many access points. However, you can only see a “Guest” network. There is no such thing as a “guest RPT”.

How can I set up my network so that I only see 1 network, like in a hotel?

The WLAN-Box takes over automatically in any case the SSID from the Internet box - without -RPT extension

If the SSID is supplemented with the abbreviation -RPT, you do not appear to have the [WLAN Box](https://www.swisscom.ch/de/privatkunden/mobile/devices_new/device_new.html/products/accessories/wlan-box- 11024867#tab%5Bselected%5D=0) but the predecessor:

    Solution:
Return the repeater and take the [WLAN-Box](https://www.swisscom.ch/de/privatkunden/mobile/devices_new/device_new.html/products/accessories/wlan-box-11024867#tab%5Bselected%5D= 0). Is the successor to the repeater and does exactly what you want.

The WLAN-Box is still 20 minutes cheaper and definitely better - and not just from my own experience. It’s not without reason that Swisscom no longer sells the old repeater.

Important 1: The WLAN-Box can also be used as a repeater (without the -EXT) addition

Important 2: ARepater must ALWAYS be installed halfway to the destination! A repeater is often installed where the WiFi is already too weak and is of little use there. A repeater must ALWAYS be installed where WiFi reception is still acceptable. It would be even better to connect it to the Internet box using a LAN cable

I have exactly the same problem with the WLAN-Box described - two WLANs are displayed for me (-RPT) and it doesn’t switch automatically. When I log in to the IP of WLAN-Box, I can see everything that is stored, but I cannot adjust the SSID 😕

    1. The WLAN box definitely does not add -RPT to the SSID.

    2. The SSID cannot be changed, it is taken over by the Internet box.

What exactly kind of devices do you use?
