MyCloud syncing with Linux (Ubuntu)?

  • Can I synchronize my data (images and other documents) with Linux - I haven’t found a way to do this yet?

Sync clients for Linux is a rather sad topic.

Not even market leaders like Google Drive or OneDrive offer a sync client for Linux for their clouds.

So I don’t think Swisscom will ever do anything directly about it.

When I recently urgently needed Google Drive under Linux, I went through the Storage Made Easy (SME) integration platform, which offers an intermediate Linux sync client for third-party clouds.

It works well to integrate Google Drive into Ubuntu, but I would see whether something could be done for the Swisscom Cloud in the future as an experimental topic, which I don’t want to open myself because the Swisscom Cloud is simply too insignificant for me.

(sorry for barging in english, I speak Dutch, so I could figure out a little bit).

Sorry to hear there are no plans for a Linux client. Many professionals, including programmers and sysadmins use linux today on the desktop, even if not as the main OS on their’s PC/Mac. Would be very useful to so, especially if there’s already and Android client…

I agree with you. A Linux Client for myCloud would be usefull.

But the fact is: There is no Knowledge about any Linux Client plans driven direct by Swisscom.

    Hope you’re joking.

Indeed. However, Linux is, sorry to say, not relevant.

If you indeed work for Swisscom (and I hope you don’t) I’d take my buisness elsewhere. You make Swisscom soud like a silly little company. I’m pretty sure this is not what they want to be perceived as. I personally didn’t touch a Window machine in more than a decade, and as a user of both Mac hardware and Linux, I have enough alternative to myCloud to take my buisness elsewhere.

I find your answer very unprofessional.

    @vupubom

It’s very easy, if you are not a grandmother who wants only looking pictures of her relevants on the TV than you are not in the target customer range of mycloud…

    Linux: comes from…

Word composition: ailinon = whine, complain (ancient Greek) Meaning / translation: the complainer, the complainer

    Somehow that fits 🙂

So Linus Torvald not only knew Unix but was also well versed in ancient Greek, a universal genius…

The app runs relatively well under Wine. However, I would only recommend this option if you are already familiar with Wine. Because the installation is relatively complicated.

I examined the app. It runs with an Electron frontend and a Spring Boot backend. Porting would therefore be possible with relatively minimal effort. But I wouldn’t rely on it.

Do I really need to mention that my posts were intended ironically? I would have liked a little more humor and imagination. However.

Our routers run on Linux and I am well aware of the importance of Linux in IT. But it must also be clear that Linux de facto does not exist on the desktop. There is Windows and a little (more) MacOS.

And hopefully the topic is now over and my dear colleagues who look after the forum don’t have to receive a complaint email every week about the crazy person who doesn’t even know Linux. 😉
