Configure synology RT1900ac VDSL router

Hello everyone!

I am looking to connect my Synology RT1900ac router to VDSL2 from swisscom without the faneu modem provided by swisscom.

unfortunately when I connect it, the internet led doesn’t even flash.

I have already contacted synology and here is our discussion:

"

ME:

Good morning,
Is your router compatible with VDSL2 (Swisscom - CH)?

I contacted my ISP support, they told me that I should configure it to obtain an IP address automatically.
But unfortunately if I connect my Synology router directly to the RJ45 socket, the WAN LED remains off.

Synology:

Please make sure that the network cable you are using is compatible or otherwise replace it with another. Please also advise your ISP to make the router available in DHCP by following the instructions in this link: https://www.synology.com/fr-fr/knowledgebase/SRM/help/SRM/RouterApp/internet\ _connection#t1b

Your router may be VDSL2 compatible but we do not have an official result concerning its compatibility with VDSL 2 so you can if possible carry out Tests, but with ADSL the router will be able to work well because some of our customers use the router for this connection.

"

But unfortunately that doesn’t get me any further… that’s why I’m turning to you all!

Do you have an idea or experience to advise?

Thanks in advance!

Theo

If your question is well formulated, I understand that you are trying to plug your router directly into the Swisscom socket?:smileysurprised:

And if I understood correctly, it won’t work like that: you need a modem between your router and the Swisscom network…

Yes, you understood correctly.

As Synology says, the router is compatible but not tested….? It’s still weird as answers

But the basic objective was to remove the swisscom modem which works wonderfully ^^

Synology writes that its router is maybe VDSL2 compatible. They also write that the router is ADSL (?) compatible, but I haven’t seen anything like that on their website. Enough to doubt the quality of their technical support staff.

In any case, plugging a simple router directly into the Swisscom connection will not work.

The modem part of Swisscom modem routers works as well as many others: it is the simplest part of the device…

DSL does not use a PPPoE identifier according to a telephone interview with a Swissom technician, he told me that it was DHCP.
Is he right?

Hello @Hotgun, yes we can say that if we don’t need a username and password.
Then we select the IP over Ethernet mode, this mode is also called Ethernet Encapsulation or DHCP mode.
I think you must have a wired IP connection.
So your router must have in the WAN Configuration interface, an option called IP over Ethernet and this option as well as the DHCP service must be active or checked.
