+1 for bridge mode or when they offer complete documentation in English or French which explains the main settings that should be put (specific to Swisscom) in a router like Netgear, Ubiquiti, MikroTik for Swisscom tv2 to work .

The internetbox-plus seems weak (saturated at 500 mbits) when there are a lot of port forwarding rules and there is very heterogeneous traffic. Whereas in the case with 2-3 clients who surf normally there is no problem reaching 1Gbps.
But with the simplified interface you cannot see the router’s load history.

With this ubiquity, I think we can recover the optical socket from the internetbox and put it in the ubiquity in the sfp port after which we will have to configure the router so that it works with swisscom and tv. And since we have 0 information it’s not going to be easy.

First of all to clarify, the fiber adapter provided by Swisscom on the Internet Box is an SFP. As a result, it will be compatible with all SFP interfaces.

What is important is that you need to know how to use it with a router behind it.

IP passthrough functionalities will never be highlighted because Swisscom wants to have End-to-End control of the network chain, therefore from the server to the box in order to avoid incompatibility/stability problems.
If you want solidity, you have to be solid in network knowledge. At Cisco everything is possible, but these are professional and expensive products. If I can advise you on anything it is to dig into the swisscom cisco vdsl or swisscom cisco FTTH topics. There is a lot of technical information on the configurations to be made in the Cisco, and therefore to be identified and inserted into your other routers.

Quite stupid, the only way for everything to work since the DHCP of the box is more than doubtful and never reliable, and since Swisscom loves to reset the boxes before even having you online…

So if I connect the TV to the internet box: well the TV box doesn’t have an IP so ciao, nothing.

But if you put it on my terminal with an IP, well before it worked, but since then, no, Swisscom doesn’t want the TV box to go anywhere other than THEIR internet box.

So… either they correct their box problems, or they stop blocking everything… because I’m paying during this time…

I want to give you my experience. I have an alix box with IPFire on it.

I wanted to have wifi from the internet box, so as not to have 5 firewalls / Access Points and routers.

The DHCP server is configured on my Firewall which has the default-gateway itself. Then I added a static route which points to the Swisscom internet-box (same subnet).

The only fault is that the return of traffic does not pass via the firewall but given that the NAT only allows the return of traffic generated by the LAN and authorized by my Firewall, that is enough for my confidence.

To connect from the outside (internet) to my local network, only VPN (OpenVPN) is possible and termination is done on my IPFire where I manage all the rules.

Ultimately, all my devices (on LAN or Wifi) receive an IP from my IPFire, and send the traffic to the Firewall (in my case the IPFire), then my Firewall inspects the requests and sends all the traffic back to the internet box . Then the return traffic is sent directly to the devices from the internet box.

I tried with an HES-3106 to convert from fiber to RJ, it works, unfortunately my router (Linksys) does not have the ability to activate DHCP option 60, so I do not receive the correct IP.

Is there no way to retrieve credentials to switch to PPPoE on VLAN 11?

Do you know if it is possible to configure the DHCP 60 option on ASUS routers (with the default firmware) from what I read it does not seem to be the case 😕

Gave myself a great zywall usg 20w on ricardo to finally configure a real network and above all IPSEC VPN access…and then I’m totally disappointed 😞

My config:

Internet-Box -//- Zywall -//- LAN1..LAN2..WAN

192.168.0.1 -//- 192.168.0.103 192.168.1.1 -//- 192.168.1.x

From the Zywall WAN I connect to the VPN-IPSec without problems but if I connect from the internet I have negotiation errors.

I tested the DMZ option and even deactivated all the firewalls…but nothing could be done for the VPN.

But no problem surfing or accessing my servers from the internet.

Before Zywall, everyone was in 192.168.1.x behind the box. I “just” wanted to insert the zywall.

Either I didn’t understand anything or I’m in the same situation as you and despair of having the IP passthrough option available.

If you have understood something and have a simple and inexpensive solution, I’M A TAKER!!!

Well… ok by rereading the thread better I understood that we can do without the swisscom box and use a router by adding a “media converter”… except for restrictions for swisscom TV and a certain DHCP setting 60…

I’m not super knowledgeable so in summary:

1) I throw away the swisscom internet box

2) I find a Media converter

3) help me configure the zywall to connect to Swisscom 🙂

PS: Is Media Converter just Swiss/France type adapters or does it do intelligent things?

My feedback, I replaced the Internet Box with a Mikrotik router, it worked correctly for internet access but I encountered problems with multicast streams because the IGMP support is bad/incomplete with this router.

I then used a Pfsense firewall solution with a Fiber - Copper media converter which worked well for 6 months even if the initial configuration is not simple because you have to modify configuration files by hand without using the webgui to configure vlan and option 60 in DHCPRequest packets. Overnight without any change on my side it stopped working 😞 The message was:

"This connection is not yet activated.

For activation, please contact your telecommunications operator in advance.

Your Binding-ID is: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

After registering via the web interface it worked for a few minutes and then the same message again.

Impossible to get support from Swisscom because I no longer used their router. To resolve this, I left the internet box plugged in and after a few hours the access worked stably again. Due to lack of time, I have not yet tried to connect my pfsense firewall directly again.

Indeed, with my knowledge of FFTH which is close to zero it seems a little complicated to me.

I had the same problem with my Mikrotik it is linked I think to the loss of IP for a moment. You must also put the swisscom code in the DHCP options so that the swisscom DHCP server can authorize it.
