Thank you very much for the quick tips 🙂! In fact, the description on tuxone is really “a work of art”… wow. I need a little time to get used to it. Also the tips for USG configuration. A bit demanding for a hobby networker 😉.

The main message that I take away after a quick glance is: Swisscom TV-Box to either connect directly to the Centro Internet box (pulling my LAN cable as described) or to virtually “loop through” the connection via the VLAN construct through the USG, which I honestly do still have to take a closer look at it (effort and future maintainability of this configuration solution if the Internet Box or the USG undergoes firmware upgrades, etc.).

You have encouraged me in my approach and put me on the right track. Thank you very much for that!

  • Help: TV Box 21 with Centro Business 2.0 & Unifi Security Gateway (via PPPoE)

  • Hello dear community

For performance reasons, I just reluctantly switched from interGGA/Quickline to Swisscom for Internet access & TV services (the Internet performance is actually significantly better with the Swisscom xDSL solution compared to the cable modem solution! In this respect, goal achieved.).

I started with a ‘inOne Home’ Internet Box 3, which unfortunately turned out to be unsuitable within a very short time, as this Swisscom private user box does not allow a fixed IP address or PPPoE bridging (unfortunately I only found out too late and had to follow the recommendation of the Swisscom customer service will change the subscription to ‘inOne KMU Office’ and the Centro Business 2.0 xDSL box [CB 2.0]).

Why is ‘bridging’ so important to me: my WAN/LAN infrastructure at home currently consists (in downstream order after the xDSL box) of a Unifi Security Gateway 4 Pro [SG 4Pro], a Gigabit Unifi 16-port PoE Switch, as well as 4 Unifi WLAN PoE access points (four-story house…) and, as usual, various LAN strips with fixed devices. Of course, the SG 4Pro takes care of the DHCP service and IP address management. I manage the whole thing using a Ubiquiti Unifi Cloud Key Controller. I’ve been very happy with this setup for 3 years and have the “home network” pretty much under control.

I have now successfully enabled LAN port 1 on the Swisscom CB 2.0 box with PPPoE (bridging) and connected the SG 4Pro downstream to this port. Internet access works perfectly for the entire LAN infrastructure and I can rely on the security of my semi-professional firewall with active IPS (Intrusion Protection Services).

Of course, the Swisscom TV-Box 21, which is on the same LAN as all other devices, no longer works. This TV-Box would certainly depend on the configuration of the CB 2.0 router and its built-in firewall (my assumption). I now have 2 options:

    1) pull a separate LAN strip for the TV-Box and attach it directly to port 2, 3 or 4 of the CB 2.0 router, which means that the TV-Box is “excluded” from my home network and served directly by the CB 2.0 xDSL router will be running ‘easy’ again and I can finally watch TV…

    2) I find a way to configure my SG 4Pro so that the TV Box 21 can work

Before I get to work pulling out the LAN cable, I wanted to know whether anyone has already found the optimal configuration of the Unifi SG 4Pro for point 2 above and successfully implemented it in order to use the TV-Box? After all, Unifi equipment is also very popular in the Swiss market and is often used by SMEs or “do-it-yourselfers” like me.

I’m happy about every hint. Thanks in advance!

    Oliver
