Internet-Box 4 is here!

The Internet-Box 4 is now available from our Online Shop. With the new Box, you can surf at up to 10 Gigabit per second.

Internet-Box benefits 4:

Maximum Internet speed thanks to the 10 Gbit/s Ethernet port
Optimised WLAN coverage with the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard: 2.4 + 5 GHz
Easy installation and lower energy consumption thanks to built-in optical fibre access

The light-coloured cover and angular base are the only visible differences with its predecessor.

Selected customers are already using the new fibre-optic router, which is undergoing diligent testing. Goldwing, user109, Bonavena, maki, acaillet and other users have shared their experiences with the Community here. THANK YOU to everyone for your interesting input and feedback!

While the Internet-Box 4 is only available to residential customers with optical fibre access, the Internet-Box 3 range includes copper and fibre-optic versions and therefore remains available to all customers.

Please add the ability to use a custom URL to update DynDNS records for providers that are not supported.

Please consider adding the option to disable unused Ethernet ports.

For example, at the moment I’m not using the 10G port. It would be good to be able to disable the port. This would reduce also the power consumption.

Please consider adding the ability to register the Internet Box with third party VoIP providers.

Would be great to have some Power over Ethernet (PoE) support on the Swisscom devices. Connecting WLAN-Box and not having to power it separately would be very convenient.

Maybe something to consider for IB5 and WB3.

Since XGS-PON (10Gbit/s - blue Internet L) is more energy efficient on Internet Box 4, why not offer it at the same price as 1Gbit/s (blue Internet M)?

There are already examples in the marketplace where the maximum available speed is offered at the same price.

In a home setting, hardly anybody can leverage 10Gbit/s to it’s full capacity yet.

Swisscom already sells TP-Link switches preconfigured for its services.

How about offering pre-configured prosumer routers at a slight premium? For example Mikrotik or Ubiquity.

Add the ability to Identify using which WiFi technology (g, n, ac, ax/WiFi 4, 5, 6) are clients connected in the topology map in the IB UI. Maybe only in “expert mode”. It would be useful for troubleshooting and identifying devices.

Add the ability to control access to WiFi based on on the signal strength to the IB/WB system. That would allow for better control and handover of devices between the InternetBox and the WLANBoxes.

For example the default could be auto, but also add the slider that goes from 0dB to -120dB and allow the user the select the minimum signal level (let’s say -80dB) to connect. This would improve roaming between access points. Devices dropping below the set value would be kicked out and forced to reconnect to an access point (IB or WB) with stronger signal.

I cannot see separate connections for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. My old iPad only supports 2.4.

my old Ipad has the same problem, but I left it in the combined view (2.4 GHz/5 GHz and it works). Don’t forget to activate the expert mode. You can also use: http://192.168.1.1

That shouldn’t be necessary. Just “forget” the existing network(click on “i” icon behind the network name and choose “forget network”) and then reconnect to WiFi again.

I’ve been using Internet Box 4 for a while now, and it’s been a positive experience. The connection is rock solid and performance is good, both wired and wireless.

Here is brief list of features I’d like to see in the next Internet-Box iteration:

WiFi 6E or 7, goes without saying
add support for EasyMesh, allow using third party extenders/repeaters
in addition to the 10Gbit port, add at least one 2.5Gbit port (even better, all remaining ports)
make the unused SFP(+) port assignable to LAN
make it bridgeable on the port of user’s choice
make it wall mountable without additional accessories, in both directions (ports facing up or down)
make it smaller, it barely fits in the distribution box
if it has telephony functionality make it possible to use it with third party services

The fixed telephony has been stagnant for a long time. Why not try to innovate with offering something similar to Google Voice that blurs the confines between mobile and fixed telephony. Swisscom is well positioned to do so.

Make is seamless, include fixed telephony as part of flat packages or internet. Allow mobile numbers to be used over SIP. Add full SIP support on Internet Box-es.
