PING HIGH

GOOD MORNING

I just changed my internet not long ago, now I have Swisscom standard. I changed because the ping was too high, I play a lot of counter-strike source on the internet, and I need the ping as low as possible, and it hasn’t changed much. I have already done tests at my neighbor’s and he has 15 ping which is great and me with the same internet and router, I have 30!

If anyone knows what’s going on, please help me

The 30 ms is a round trip time, so your délai in relation to the server is 15 ms, less time than it takes for internet data to travel from Paris to Marseille!

So I would say that there is nothing abnormal, but if you could at least give what the target of the “ping” is, that would allow us to look in more detail 😉

    A ping of 30ms is completely normal, you must be connected to VDSL (and not ADSL). VDSL has a much longer latency than ADSL, unfortunately it is not suitable for gamers. Swisscom is migrating all its customers to VDSL, so going back is not possible. You have to deal with…

    swisscom et d’autres fournisseurs ont 2 modes:

    fastpath (si le raccordement est de bonne qualité sans erreurs), par défaut sur fibre swisscom FTTH (les français appel cela le mode “patate”, activé sur demande.

    interleaved (vérification des paquets, indispensable tel que pour des ligne DSL de mauvaise qualité)

    30ms on hsi.bluewin.ch seems more than normal to me. I tested at home, I arrived at 24ms (a Sunday afternoon)

    Ping target –> this is the destination server. If your server is hsi.bluewin.ch, there is a good chance that it is in Switzerland. Online game servers are often distributed. There may be several servers per country.

    The ping speed therefore depends on:

    - server destination

    - the distance between your home and the Swisscom hub

    - the quality of your line

    - time and day

    - the speed of your upload and download bandwidth.

    In short, there are many parameters which mean that a response may take more or less time

        Okay, but can’t you do something to lower it a bit?

        I have 5.40Mb of download and 500kb of upload, but I have already seen with 4.80mb and 500kb, with a lower ping, it doesn’t matter if I have 4.80Mb of download, but or less with a lower ping. A more stable connection helps I think. That’s why I say that it doesn’t matter if I have 4.80Mb of download but at least it’s stable

            DRIFTKING Bandwidth and latency (ping) are not correlated. Much of the latency is introduced by rearrangement of data with access technology. Then, 30ms (round trip!) is absolutely negligible, if you want to lower this value you will have to go and live in a datacenter 🙂
