No roaming for Apple Watch with Family setup

Hi,

We have an Apple Watch SE with family setup (=no phone associated, watch is managed from parent phone). eSIM is with inOne mobile care Abo. Some time ago (_last year) roaming was working in this setup, we could enable it directly in the watch in Cellular Settings.

But now it doesn't work. Now there is no option to enable roaming - neither in Watch app on the parent's iPhone nor on the watch directly. I called the hotline and they told me it's Apple's fault and we need to wait for the system update that will fix it, but I believe it's old news - since WatchOS 9.1 roaming is supported.

Anything that can be done?

I had the same problem. Apple and Swisscom are blaming each other. Here is the solution, which I painstakingly researched myself: If you also have a family configuration (i.e. your own phone number for the Apple Watch only), here's the answer as to why it doesn't work:

"International roaming is not supported for Apple Watch models with cellular service used with family configuration."

Thank your for this. I have talked to Swisscom at least 4 times. I have visited the Apple store in Geneva (and abroad) multiple times, and even sent my kid's watch off to be "repaired" by Apple. Neither had a response other than to say that their respective system showed that everything was ok. Frustrating.

This is exactly our situation. Have talked to Swisscom at least 4 times. Folks sympathize with concern but have no solution. Have visited the Apple store in Geneva (and abroad) multiple times, and even sent my kid's watch off to be "repaired" by Apple. Neither had a response other than to say that their respective system showed that everything was ok. Frustrating. The fact that they told you there is some update that might fix this is hopeful, but suspect that I will just have to get my youngest a phone sooner rather than later...
