TV Box / Picture black

Hello everyone, for about 4 weeks we have had to either restart our box regularly (2-3 times) per week or reset it completely with the paper clip.

The error pattern is as follows: After starting the box, you can see the channel bar, guide, menu etc. and can also change the channel, but the picture remains black. Even the sound is available. After a reboot or complete reset, the picture is displayed correctly again in most cases. After approx. 2-3 days, the same error pattern reappears.

The following configuration is in use:

  • TV Box 21
  • Direct LAN connection to the Internet router
  • Samsung TV UE46D6500
  • Sonos Beam via HDMI ARC

Already tried/undertaken:

  • Reboot TV Box 21
  • Reboot router
  • Factory settings TV Box and router
  • Swapped HDMI cable
  • Network cable replaced

Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance for the tips and your ideas!

roku73 Unfortunately, disconnecting the power didn’t always help, so the only option was to reset.

I have de-energised the TV several times, unfortunately without success.

Hi, at the end of the evening, do you unplug the TV Box from the 220V?

To enable an update to be carried out, you really shouldn’t unplug it. On the other hand, it’s better to put the box on stand-by, as the updates mainly take place at night in the background.

Your TV or audio equipment may not support HDCP properly. If possible, try another HDCP 2.2-certified HDMI cable or use the original HDMI cable supplied with your TV box.

      **Disable HDMI CEC

Some devices do not support HDMI CEC (Anynet+ on Samsung). Try disabling this function on your TV and TV box.

      Firmware update

Check whether your TV and TV Box have updates available. Sometimes a bug can cause this kind of problem.

If the problem persists, reset your Samsung TV to factory settings.

Don’t forget that your Samsung TV must be connected to the Internet.

      Best regards Doremi

You still have the HDMI 1x whether this is a problem with the TV-Box 5, I can’t say because my two Samsung TVs have HDMI 2.x.

Do all HDMI connections on the TV only have HDMI 1.x?

All older FHD TV sets are limited to HDMI 1.x, because HDMI 2.x was only introduced at the same time as the UHD TV sets.

Normally this is not a problem at all, because all Swisscom TV boxes are also downward compatible with FHD HD and presumably even with SD TV sets, if they already have an HDMI interface.

HDMI 2.x is only relevant for UHD broadcasters and, from a technical point of view, a prerequisite for the transmission of UHD signals, which then simply cannot be played on a “non-UHD-capable” TV set as a consequence.
