tvOS 18: Picture freezes on certain channels

Hello everyone

Since tvOS 18 I have had the problem that on some channels (e.g. RTL, VOX) the picture freezes every few seconds and then jumps back to the current position after about 2 seconds. Before the update everything worked without any problems. I also deleted the app and reloaded it, but unfortunately without success. Do you have the problem too?

Thank you for your answers 🙂

@endeler

I just tried it and the problem can be reproduced well on both channels.

It could definitely have something to do with a lack of adaptation of the blue TV app on tvOS 18, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be because it doesn’t affect all channels.

@RomanE: Do you already know anything about the streams of the 2 channels for the Apple TV-Box?

@RomanBl: Ev. Any adjustments to the blue TV app to tvOS 18 pending?

Thank you for testing! Then I’m reassured that I’m not the only one. Let’s wait and see, there will definitely be a fix at some point. In particular, I think that not all users are apparently affected.

Hello @endeler

I’m currently updating a second ATV to tvOS 18 and testing again.
Is that coming immediately? Or do you have to look longer?

I switched on fresh earlier but only watched for about 3 minutes.

You write every few seconds. Or do you have to watch for 10 or 20 minutes?

Good morning @endeler

So, the update to tvOS is completed on the 2nd ATV. I can’t see the problem on this one either.

Another thing I noticed was that app version 2.4.1 886190 was released yesterday.
I also tested both versions, the previous 2.4.02146877 and the one that came out yesterday. Everything fine.

I have no idea if it is at least a regional problem. But as I said, everything is okay for me in Lucerne.

I also have this problem with VOX and actually all channels in the Blue Premium DE additional package such as Universal, WB Serie, Sky One, etc. Other apps such as Sky Sport etc are no problem.

Today’s update has not brought any improvement. Will probably be fixed with the next update.

By the way, the problem only occurs for me on the Apple TV 4K; on the old Apple TV HD, all channels work without any problems.

Correction to last post: I just had the problem with the Sky Sport app on Sky Premier League. After restarting the Sky app everything was ok again.

There were no problems with my Apple TV 4k from 2022, neither with the current tvOS 18 version nor with the corresponding beta versions.

Image settings to 4k SDR 50 or 4k HDR 50 and image adjustments to ON?

Unfortunately I only have the one box. What speaks against a fundamental problem is the fact that only individual broadcasters are affected by the problem.

I tested it with both image settings on 4k SDR 50 and 4k HDR 50 and image adjustments on and image adjustments on OFF (for both 4k variants). With Image Adjustment ON it was actually a lot worse!

I also restarted all devices including the router, uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, directly on the TV instead of via AVR etc.

@Albatros2

ATV 4K 2nd generation twice and both show the problem on individual channels.

Image settings of the ATV’s:

Once Dolby Vision 50P and once FHD 50P, which of course depends on the TV set connected.

PS: I even have two different versions of the blue TV app on it. Once the latest productive version and once the even newer friendly test version, but it makes no difference.
