Blocks gambling and adult websites

  • Good morning

I would like to block certain websites via DNS, but I don’t know how to do it. Do you have a procedure to follow?

    THANKS

      Hello Elsa68

To block certain websites like those related to gambling or adult sites via DNS settings, you can follow these steps. This can be done at the level of your internet box

Open a browser and type your router’s IP address 192.168.1.1.

Log in with your router username and password

In the configuration interface, navigate to the “Network” section, then select the “DNS” tab

You can replace the current DNS servers with parental control DNS servers, such as those from CleanBrowsing, OpenDNS FamilyShield, or Cloudflare DNS. These services offer filters that automatically block inappropriate sites such as adult or gambling sites.

      • CleanBrowsing (Filter for adults):
        *Primary DNS: 185.228.168.10
        • Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.11
      • OpenDNS FamilyShield:
        • Primary DNS: 208.67.222.123
        • Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.123
      • Cloudflare DNS with adult content filter:
        • Primary DNS: 1.1.1.3
        • Secondary DNS: 1.0.0.3
        • This should allow you to block inappropriate sites!

    Good morning
Thank you for the answer, which one do you recommend, to block only all gambling sites except for example “Swiss Lotto”? possibly I can add keywords myself?

    And are these DNS free?

    @Elsa68 Thanks for the feedback

If a DNS is configured to block gambling sites, all sites of that type will be blocked. However, it is important to test this solution to verify its effectiveness. I’m just sharing with you an option I implemented for my family, using Cloudflare to block adult sites, and it works well. The DNS offered are free for basic blocking on an Internet router.

    Have a nice day Doremi

two others to mention (associative and European):

    - from France: www.dns0.eu/fr/kids

    - from Germany: dnsforge.de

no server in Switzerland, but the latency remains correct for quiet use.

and to know where we are at the moment:

    www.top10vpn.com/tools/what-is-my-dns-server

finally, the example of use (with Quad9) of a command from the UNIX world (macOS, Linux distribution, etc…) in order to know the response time:

    dig @9.9.9.9 www.swisscom.ch | grep time

note that you have to restart it once or twice to better understand the result (–> cache/real “distance”).
